View Full Version : More I know, the more I don't know
Question #1:
Why can I clone my card with a 3m without having to write a hex onto it as well? I cloned my clean card with a valid bin, and yet I didn't have to write the hex after...it worked fine, and is still up.
A* clone = clone. if script was not encrypted it copied the cam identically as possible with you set up.
Question #2:
I've been surfing this forum (because I find it be among the best for info and sharing), and I still don't have a firm understanding of the concept of the differences between a bin and a hex. Can someone tell me what the differences are, and why we need both? And, as in my 1st question, why can you clone your card without writing the hex in some cases?
A*Bin = the entire eprom dump from your card i.e. cam # zkt ect. Hex = adding something to the script (eprom dump) thats not alrewady on there. so if you apply a hex that does not contain in the script the cam id and the usw and dsw it will not add them on. like a local hex to a Bin that does not have locals will add the locals you have it programed in the hex directly to the card. If you bin was not at USW008 and DSW 006 then if you hex'ed the usw6-dsw8 hex to the card and then read the card you would see the usw and dsw updated.
A* I DONT KNOW luckly I have always had a verified ZKT to work with but I will find out how when someone else post the answer with any corrections to my previous answers that I have mistakenly answered wrong.
keep on keeping on and maybe you will be able to tell me.
my valid sub is not going to last forever. BTW I think a 3M will work without a true ZKT but thats the problem I think I do not know. I do know the ones I used without 3 checks did not stay up as long wether that is pertaining or not.

Volleyballer, your card with bin only applied works because its currently subscribed and is stream-updated. You'll receive whatever the subscription level of that bin is, and will continue to do so, provided two conditions are met:
1) The subscriber continues to do so, and:
2) You keep the card in the receiver, in the datastream, where it will receive the updates that are passed down approximately every two weeks.
In simple terms (I like those! :p ) a .BIN file deals with the card-to-receiver verification/authorization process, allowing you to view a channel in the first place...an ACTIVATION or 3M HEX determines HOW you'll be viewing those channels...by process of selection based on the applied tiers (activation) or wide-open (3M)
You don't need secondary and tertiary ZKT's to verify in order for your card to work. In fact, 3m scripts write code right into those areas, corrupting them as they do so.
Personally, I feel having 3 "greens" is important with activation...but the only mandatory verified-good table is the primary.
When you patch a CAM/ZKT, that's what you're patching - the CAMID and the primary ZKT. The secondary/tertiary ZKT tables have never been compromised. The secondary ZKT cannot be repaired, and it's my understanding that HUDiff only "cosmetically" repairs the tertiary, and is not a true "repair".
