Hi all,
A friend of mine has to remove his dish cuz the landlord doesn't want any oval grey metalic devices all over his building anymore(cuz, apparently, they are not esthetically pleasing to the eye.....whatever!!). I've seen and read a few threads on how to camouflage your dish, which some of them were intelligent and others were freakin' hilirous to read.....but i was wondering if it was possible to catch a signal with only using the lnb? Basicly pointing the lnb directly to daves bird without the dish itself.

Is this possible?

I would assume yes (maybe alittle difficult on catching a signal) but, you know, you should never assume because...................you know the rest:)

Thx

by law i think that your landlord can't ask your friend to do that unless it is specified in a agreement? but i have heard of people putting their dish inside the house near a window, the thicker the glass the lower the signal strength. he may want to give it a try.

Nope !

The dish is the reflector , it reflects the signal to the LNB , your out of luck there !

Tell your landlord that if you can't have satellite TV in your home, then you are going to find a new home. You can also suggest that he investes in one dish and a splitter to send signal to every single apartment. (They make a special dish and splitter/switch for this application) That way he would only have one dish on the building, and he could charge a little extra rent because you would have a satelite feed in every apartment. Of course, if your in Canada, you are practically advertising your hacking when you have a dish on your house.

Ahhhmmm...no!

If your buddy has a window with the right view he might be lucky enough to set the dish up inside... but no guaranties.

When i first got my dish hooked it up cranked the volume (so i could hear the signal from on my roof) opened the main door, with dish in hand, and WHAM...blew my ears out... But do you think I could find that F*ing bird when I got up on the roof.... took me 3hours! lol :D

Tell your friend to get a tripod for the dish and put it on a proch or something. The landlord can't say anything about that as long as it isn't attached to the house he has no argument. I lived in a townhouse where I couldn't attach anything to the building, so I got a tripod and put it on the balcony. Also you may want to look into a squarial dish, I read about em somewhere. Well its not a dish its a flat square. No one would have any clue as to what it was and easy to hide. Although I am not sure how available they are in the US. I saw a site awhile back and it was $300. Couldn't find the link otherwise I would have posted it. Absorbs the signal instead of reflecting, I also think I remember it would work behind glass.

Also maybe look into another type of dish called a DigiCube Satellite Dish

Close Double Ought.... The 60 degrees is "built in" to the LNB.... Then you add that to the elevation provided for your geographic location....
See, dope doesn't kill ALL your brain cells, huh?
