Damn, I hate to ruin an otherwise good day for you, Satman...I'm not familiar with the Philips DSX5500, but I am familiar with Call 752. It means "P4 ONLY". :(

has anyone heard if they can trap its flash chip with JKEYS..i have now verified it can be done with the RCA435..this 6th generation RCA is the latest one from Dave that is selling it is greyish and sloped like an answering machine (AKA the RID receivers)..until recently we could only use P4 cards in them..but now we have the files and method (jkeys v2.9.11) to access the flash and erase and reprogram it with a binary that allows the use of a HU card...but that is all we can now do with them..there is an excellent thread going on at ID to explain how its done.
i would like to see if this can now be done for the Phillips 5500..i have a stack of them waiting to be modified.
incidently I would wait to mess around with the RCA435 since there is NOT a nozkt patch available and also we have not found the BFR pin..it is not generally a good idea to flash these chips unless BFR is held to ground.
why?
because if during the process of erasing or programming that chip you have a voltage spike or windows operating system failure ( I know these are rare events but its been known to happen) you will totally trash the flash chip and becasue we didn't have originally BFR to ground it will be very hard to get back into the now corrupted firmware on the damaged flash chip...you see we need valid and uncorrupted firmware to safely erase the chips if we can't find BFR pin to ground.
I am hoping someone finds out how to get into those 5500's now that their cousin the RCA435 has been hacked.

The Philips 5250, 5350, and 5353 are flashed without grounding BFR,,,,so far they work fine.....

I have probably modified 30 or so of the Phillips and yes we don;t need to ground the BFR, but I would prefer to find that spot just the same, call it an added safety precaution..since they have not identified it on these new RCA435 RID based receivers I suspect it will a much larger problem with that receiver..i can see it now..alot of minute corruption to its firmware on the RCA435 chip will make it very difficult to get back in and retry after a bad re-programming sessions.
just something I wanted pass along so people understand why ground BFR is important..it is not essential just a good added safety measure that's all..and with this finicky new RID based receivers we wil just have to be extra careful..I suspect the Phillips5500 will be modified in the same manner as the RCA435.
