I have a hard drive giving me an error here. I have removed the harddrive and formatted it w/ MaxBlast and it gives me no errors.

Can someone give me the steps to re-install the hard-drive and get it so it will remarry itself to the receiver. I read something about getting a Virgin TSOP. I got one but I'm unsure of how or what to do next.

ANy help would be awesome....

HI,

I have to same problem. Did you get hit by the ECM just before it happened. I reflashed with all versions of TSOPs even a virgin TSOP but still not good. I think erasing part of the TSOP memory will make it work but I unsure which part.

You definately need to reflash with a virgin TSOP (501 = P053) (508 = P053 or P063) for the HD to re-marry to IRD. Sit tight guys, I'll make a step-by-step and post...

Here's a 'Cut n Paste' 501/508 Reflashing step-by-step I got from KC. This doc does not cover the steps for FlashEdit. You'll first need a matching virgin TSOP build, then edited & saved with FlashEdit.

Also, it does indicate that a simple jtag will work. It can, however you may need to do it several times before you get a good write. I strongly suggest a buffered model. Good luck!

Here is what I have tried to do:

1. Edit Flash 2 from the virgin firmware (P063) with your box keys and IRD#, make sure it is the correct build config and use ird-r (in the files section) to fix the checksum and create a virgin eeprom.
2. Backup Both Flash chips and the eeprom from your receiver.
3. Erase Flash 1 & 2 on your receiver, write the virgin Flash 2 dump and virgin eeprom that you created in step 1 to your receiver, leave Flash 1 blank.
4. Reconnect Satellite to the receiver, plug it in with card in. Leave it alone for 15-30 minutes. The PVR will format the hard drive and marry it and then the light will start flashing as it upgrades to the current firmware.

After I connect the receiver the system doesn't upgrade, it just goes to channel 101. The menu is stripped w. only 6 options. Do I have a bad virgin file possibly?

I would try a different TSOP as the one you have may be corrupt. Also, when streaming IRD, do not put card in slot.

Don't give up, Dude! Success will taste sooooo sweat when you get it! I know...I've been there!

Nascarfan - did you get it to work yet or not? Iv heard that once the HD is remarried just flash back to original tsop image and it will work fine.

That's what I did........worked cool. The 053 or whatever flash will not work with a DP dish, but no problem hard disk will still re-marry, then reflash back to an updated flash and DP dish then works and receiver will update and work fine.

Chapster99, I have read your very imformative guide but I am not sure how I need to edit the virgin TSOP with Flash Edit...

I am having all kinds of Hard Drive Error problems with my 501, and looks as though I need to re-marry the HD to the IRD... If you could help I appreciate it!!

Do a search for a guide on Crash course for jkeys and flashedit.
