I have a refurbished 508 with the moved ird info system, and am trying to get the MC to run in camless ROM3 mode.

The original software version on this system is P078, with a build config DCSA. I have tried flashing with the PVR508-P068-DC3A (moved ird info) from the TSOP bank, and I still have the problem of the system saying invalid card when I start it up. Now, I have programed Flash 2 and the EEPROM, and left flash 1 alone, as there is no file for flash 1 in the TSOP bank (That I can find anyhow).

Any suggestions on how to get this up and running would be greatly appreciated. BTW, I am using a buffered JTAG, and have successfully read the jeys, and backed up the FLASH's with the chicocanada modified Jkeys.

I simply used a quad mode jtag with the switch set to gound pin 1. (Didnt have to do the OJ1 mod in my case). It pulled the keys right off with no problem. I did some digging and found a vid mod for the 508. I am going to do that tonight, and hopefully unlock rom3 cards for the system. Wish me luck.

Just read your post on the 508 . I have one coming so i am just gathering info in advance .I no not have a jtag yet any idea what i should get , i am not sure of all the different jtag models their or what works for each receiver. What is a vid mod and how do i know if i need to do it .The only thing i know is the unit comes with a yellow charlie card .I have also ordered a lock AR 105-c .
If you would help me in getting started in the right direction thanks.

I finished a 508 with dual GT flash chips. Had to a lot of reading. Seems there are 3 board types, at least 3. And several chip configurations. The real problem is that if U7 is a 323GT chip, it is locked and a vid mod must be done to unlock it.
One board type has resistor 331, one type has a place for resistor 331 but no resistor, and one type has neither the resistor or a place for it.
This one had the place for the resistor but no resistor.
The hassle is that the board must be removed from the case as you have to cut a trace below and solder a couple wires either side of the cut.
Then you need a version of jkeys that supports the 508, I found it but don't remember where.
If anyone need some specific help I'll try to assist. I read so much yesterday that I can't begin to tell you where I got the info as I had to piece it together from multiple sites and forums.
If U7 is a DT chip, no vid mod needed.

Thanks for the info , i know what you mean about all the reading my eyes are too sore to read more today .When i get this unit i wll open it up and check it out let you know what i find , thanks again .
