Can you use a remote control to retrieve the boxkeys from this receiver. I have ROM 3 at REV 370 card. Does that means it is open? Never been put in this receiver before. Came in the box. Thanks.

Remote control will not get you boxkeys. 7100 series has no Jtag port to read the keys, So normally we need the card the thing was married to and read the keys from the card. Since your card was not married to the 7100, Most likely no keys on it. You may want to go the "Magic Card" angle since you do not know the keys and magic cards work without having boxkeys.

Yes the card is open. I dont have a programmer to program it though. Can I just put the card in the receiver, watch the preview channel for half hour (I know it will be locked) and then go avr 6 route. Is there any disadvantages? Will the boxkeys on the card then?

Your card may get streamlocked to 381 doing this, This is a choice for you to make.
Also, Just started 2 days ago, But 7100/7200's are getting software updates via stream every morning at 3AM central time for about 10-15 minutes, Not sure whats up with these yet, My 7200 is still running fine but did notice some menus looking dif after so far.

You Can Not Just Put The Card In The Receiver And Expect The BoxKeys To Be Written To The Card Without Subbing The Unit. It Don't Work That Way.

Birdie,
Is your receiver subbed before? The straight question is that do you have boxkeys on your card?

Mine was a ex sub, So Yes, It had been married to the card. Had the card unlocked and read it then for my keys.
A friend has a brand new one right now that has your same situation. We tryed loading virgin umarried images to the card with no blocker seeing if it would marry, But no luck. Looks like it needs to be subbed for the card to retrieve the boxkeys. So other options now.
1) Looking into the voltmeter methed of retrieveing keys.
2) A direct link Via a actual chip programmer on the TSOP chip itself. I do have a Needhams electronics EMP 30 chip reader/Programmer, But will need to buy the chip module and tsop chip socket adapter to try this( I am sure this way will work, But will cost me about 200 bucks for the access. to do it).
Will keep you up to date on our venture here.

BirdieMODvisit,
You Will Need A Sombrero To Read The BoxKeys. Do A Search.
Zacky01,
The 7100/7200 Have Not Been ECM'd. There Is A Way To Write Protect The Tsop. Don't Remember Where I Saw The Instructions Though.

sombrero is available at dishontv.com. I am afraid to buy it, due to the security reasons. I dont want to reveal my ID and other info.
Birdie,
What if I sub it for month and then desub it and use avr 6? When they send desub signals, would AVR stop working?

I will go for sombrero this way you do it and you learn, but if you want i can pull the tsop and read it for you i have the programmer with the socket,if you are interested send me and email,I will charge 50.00 plus the shipping back to you.
Thank you for the offer and willingness to help me out, but I am not that smart on taking the chip out. I think I will sub it and then desub it after an hour and go to avr 6 route. Thanks again.

Omega Offered To Pull The Tsop and Read It For You. $50.00 Plus Round Trip Shipping. Would Be Cheaper To Buy The Sombrero.
Don't You Think That Will Raise A BIG RED Flag With DishNetwork? Call to Sub And Then Call Back An Hour Later To Cancel?
when you produce your own equipment you are not obligated to any kind of time frame. an hour would be a little noticeable though. try it for a month or two. you'll probably wind up cancelling your cable or whatever you have. just think, bottom of the last inning,2 out,2 on,3 to 3 and the phone rings lol
