Just subbed, and it seems that DTV no longer allows people to use thier own equipment any more?

Is it me, or is that wrong? I had purchased the equipment years ago (for many $$), and kept it with the intent that I would reactivate them someday. They will not even send me the cards to use it.

Is this not the same thing as a cell phone co. not activationg your phone, even tho you have a signal-compatible phone?

Who could I complain to about this? Attorney-general? Just seems like a racket now... Maybe this is a case of antitrust, sine they devalue my equipment unfairly by not reactivating it simply by policy! No wonder people hack the service!

When you subbed did you buy a system 1st ? or did you ask to subb and told them you had old equipment. What was there reason they wouldn;t activate.

They stated that they only systems they would activate were ones bought at places like BestBuy, etc - presumably where you have an implied contract to activate within 30 days of purchase.

I told them I bought the equipment at a garage sale. I also reminded them that when I subscribed in 98' that I was required to have the dish installed and pointed to a sat with the box connected before calling to activate, and that it was already done.

So looks like they want to kill your ability to sell your equipment that you paid for. My opinion is that they can certainly retain property of the card, but the IRD is mine to recoup my costs should I decide to sell it.

i wonder though if you tried to activate your old receiver after you sub with a contract.. i mean they already got your 12 monrhs and to add some of the new receivers don;t have the features of the older ones... the drd480 for one.. it has a rf antenna some you can control the receiver through rooms.. i think the rep you got was jumping at his or her commision. :)

Tell them that if they wont activate the equipment you already have you will just get the deal from Charlie. On the other hand, I wouldn't be asking Dave for anything for a few weeks. You will probably end up with your name on a list.

BTW- For this expectation to be reasonable, you must be trying to activate the P4 that goes with that receiver. Otherwise, you will have to pay Dave for new cards to activate.

I don't think that Dave employees got comissions... They even told me to call back later when I decide what I wanted to do.... That would be a bad move for a commission seeker....

I don't think you can tell DTV anything right now , they have the ball & the bat too and it is there game ...
Take it or leave it is there motto...
I have a good friend that just subbed , the installer has to come out and install everything , even the cards and will wait there till they all update ... He already has a dish up and older IRD's...
Times have changed !

I have a pair of 430s that came with p4s that I was going to use to sub when the time came well, it looks like I won't be doing that. How long should someone wait to call dave for a sub? I have a c-band up and running so dave can bite me. Thanks otherside

I'll never sub to Dave again. I made that choice a few years ago. If your gonna sub, sub to Charlie. You may actually get some form of customer service from Charlie.
