rom2's can be cleaned by righting a virgin bin to the card. when the unit (3000) gets ECMed you have to use the trash can method. This will make the IRD up date via the stream. Then you will be good to go!!!

about the virgin thing. Read the card because if the card has the info from the ird you are using write them down 1st. Like the boxkeys ird info. Then one step clean. Then find a virgin binn that HASN'T been in the data stream. About the trash thing no clue about that.

I think he's refering to the Junkyard fix. That no longer works on a 3000 (also known as a grey box receiver). The JY fix will only work on a 3000 to convert to bell expressvu. Which does you no good at all since bell never had a rom2 cam. So it won't work on bell. Well actually it will but it's complicated. Install a TSOP lock before you ever hook up this model to a dish. Your 3000 may not work for other reasons as well. If it dosen't have a current firmware revsion it will not update. That is if it hasen't been hooked up to a dish in the last 1 1/2 years or more.

The best way to clean a rom2 is to get two pieces of software. One is xcel36 the other is nagraedit (any version above 1.1 will work but 4 is the latest). Use xcel to read the card. (CAUTION never write to a rev54 rom 2 with xcel it will loop it).

Start xcel. Insert you rom2 into your cam reader/writer. Click on the bionocular icon above the ATR window. Once xcel finishes reading the card remove it from reader to prevent any accidents.

After reading the card click on file in the pull down menus then Save Bin As. Name the file with the S00XXXXXXXX number of the card. This is the backup in case something goes wrong. Something always does in my experience. This is also the backup source for the boxkeys for your 3000 receiver. There is no other inexpensive way to obtain the boxkeys for that model receiver. I'm making the point that this is important. So save this file twice in two different locations. By different locations I mean a disk or different comp. Not just a different folder on your main pc. Or write the boxkeys on the receiver with a felt tip pen. That works too.

Next click on EEProm Utilities in the top pull down menus. Click on clean and answer yes and ok to all the prompts.

Next click on EEProm Utilities again and select clean tiers. Answer ok to all the prompts.

Now click on EEProm Utilities once again and select Rev052 Refresh.

Now click on file then Save Bin As. Name it CleanRev52.bin or something you will remember.

Close xcel. Important! xcel tends to hog the com port and you may have problems with nagra if xcel is open at the same time.

Open nagraedit.

Click on the open file icon.

Select the CleanRev52.bin or whatever you named it.

Select the rom2 in the Select Card Image Type box. Click on OK

Insert rom2 card in programmer.

Click on the Write To Card icon (the one above the Data Editor tab with the RED arrow).

Click OK.

You now have a clean Rom 2 image written to your card. It will be at Rev52 and can be safely read and written to with xcel (best software for rom2 IMHO).

It has the correct boxkeys and ird number for your 3000 as well.

DSSFTP.com

If more than 200 are downloading you won't get in. So you may have to wait and try at a different time. I find early in the morning works. Like 5 or 6 am east coast time.

Or for 25.00 US you can get in anytime. Well worth it if you don't want to wait.

The only reason I haven't signed up is I tend to upload more the download. Uploading is free anytime. Well worth the price IMHO if you need the files and don't want to wait.
