Got a 3800-00 w/288-02 ROM & DP301 00-10 w/288-09 ROM. Both were desubbed about a month ago after my dads passing.

Nowwww.....from what I read the 3800 is a good unit for testing, but I'm not sure about the DP301 with the ROM 10.

I like what I read about the Magic Card.......but wonder if I need it, I have an old dual crystal ISO programmer, and a J-Tag. Is this enough to get me started or as a DishNet newbie am I risking looping the cards ( looping appears to be more of a problem in this platform).

Both receivers will work fine. The rom2 should be open but the rom 10 is most likely stream locked if it was subbed up until a month ago. You'll have to read them in nagra and find out. Don't know anything about magic cards. Plastic works fine for me. You should be able to get the rom2 going in no time.

288-02 is a rom3 and will be locked at least 381. Do not stream it until you know for sure. If it hasen't been hooked up in a month it will be at rev 381 and can be ulocked with your ISO.

Since you have a jtag you can set up the rom 3 for either the 301 or the 3800 your choice.

The rom 10 will be at locked at A21. You can either buy a Ubomb unlocker. Or wait a public unlock may be out soon. Or send it to a dealer to be unlocked. But same warning do not put it in a receiver hooked up to a dish. It will update and be locked at the newer rev and unusable at this time.

First thanks for the info......The rom3 card that goes with the 3800 shows rev382. Can it still be unlocked? Also I came across another rom3 (card only) that reads rev372 but refuses to clean. (says backdoor is locked).

382 means it's locked no freeware available to unlock it. Don't know if dealers can even do a 382 yet.

372 should not be locked at all. If it says it is it may be dealer locked. Or it could be a stream lock. If it is a stream lock do a search for rev372 locked. Several methods to unlock a 372 are freeware. Carful though many will mark the card.

I have never tried it but the new 381 unlock script shoud open that 372. I have used it to open 380 revision no problem but never anything lower. If it's your only usable card try to find confirmation before trying it from at least two reliable sources.
