Which Dish Emu program to use?

Another question (if this ever gets any viewers that is... :p ) I've been browsing BellExpress and the Emulation guide is weak (at best), and that hardware store doesn't seem to have all necessary components. Maybe I'm incorrect, but in a Dish emu setup, what goes in the card slot? Is this the same stimulator from Dave or something entirely different that I'm not seeing anywhere?
You need a emulator board that has a max232 and an atmel commonly known as max and mel emu board. the regular dtv rs232 type board won't cut it. Timing issues.Milli has some good stuff support our hobby and get your gear here.

Magua got your email . I do not do dish but I do emulate Bev . They are the same ird's so the hardware is the same but the progaming is different . Keep in mind my answers are bev related however I think you will find they are accurate to dish also as bev follows dish ecms and methods
Re:locks- Softlock is a method of changing the program of the TSOP so it will not allow the address to goto 000001. Usable on old software rev not new .
Hard lock is an add on device to the ird electronics that prevent writing to the TSOP. Work well.

What IRD The 2700 ;2800 '4700 are the easiest to hack . They have an open jtag port to read and write to the one TSOP . The 3100 series have two large tsop . They can be read and written to . Just a little more difficult.

Interface and cables Buy the max mel external for now . www.satemu.com has never let me down. No disrespect to any of the sponsors.

Computer needs for dos programs a p-100 or better . For widows programs like yavous which I would recommend you start with I would use at least a p-200.

Jtag- If you take any advise from me at all get yourself a buffered Jtag . You will save yourself one shit load of grief!

Emulation is the way to go . If you are an old DTV fan you probably learned that . Once you lock your ird down all dish can do is stop it from working . No damage done. It is also a great learning tool for the tiers and bin management . Plastic will be easy for you after emulation.

BBAD, where and what would you recommend for a lock(hard)? Since I noticed that mili no longer has any available. I would take it that some sort of lock is a must have for EMU? I use it for Dave as well, but starting out new. I will try Bev for a while, then gonna try switching it to charlie.

On Mili's How-To area on BelExpress.vu I see two locks listed - a TSOP lock and a EEPROM lock. What's the difference and do they both help, or do they both do the same?

Bev is a lot easier to date as they are not as agressive as Dish to date so it is the place to start .
Locks -Buy the most current lock Last I saw was Digital lock 4 but it has been a few months . Be sure the site has a howto download! If you are using a 3100 I would not attempt a digital lock . They are difficult to instal . If you feel you can cut a trace the size of a few hairs and solder to that then go for it .
With a good buffered jtag you can do what is called a sector erase to repair any ecm on the TSOP . Now an ecm to the eeprom chip ( very rare to date ) can also be repaired with your jtag using a program called Flash Edit and Jkeys (WallV2.2 for 3100 is recommended).So TSOP and Eeprom are just two chips in the IRD that the Sat provider screws with to screw us testers.
Ok programs and bin and tiers . When you are ready to go find CEMU87a. Extract to a floopy . Open the cemu.ini file and entre your IRD ,box keys, Cam ID , Zip code and Daylight . Save . Now open bev381.bin with Niagra edit(3) And change only the cam id in the three locations . Save file to floopy . Now you have a file called bev381.bin.bn3 . Remove the old bin and rename your new bin back to bev381.bin.Your done . PM if ya need more help . I will get an email notice that way . Not hear that often .

From one newbie to the others. I will tell you what I did, that worked for me. I made a 6" cable using cat5 cable and soldered it to the connections on my 2700 IRD. On the open end, I soldered a female db9 connector. Then I make a 5' cat5 cable, soldering a male db9 on one end and on the other a db25 parallel connector. using the 100 ohm 1/4 watt resistors and when I finished, I put on half of the shell connector, and glued everything in place to keep from it shorting out or moving. Installed the other half and screwed it together. I had no problems using the JTAG ground connector, or getting the information from the TSOP or EEPROM using the jkeys program. Save this information in at least two different places in case the puter goes down. You will need this information when you get ECMed. You will need a board to connect the IRD to the computer, some prefer the max/mel board either internal or external. You can use a serial cable for short runs or a cat5 for longer runs from the IRD to the puter. You can use the puter to run more than one IRD, but you will need a serial port for each IRD. From what I read, soft locks are outdated, and hard wired ones are not easy to install. Look at the instruction sheet for the didigal and other wired locks before buying, it will blow you away unless you are very good at circuits. You do not need a smart card to EMU. All this info is in the different help files, I take no credit for any of this, just passing it along for what its worth. good luck, read more, search more, and then ask more.

I emulate B* & D* on the same PC, using Multicemu for eons. Just the bin is different.
Beside, you don't have to put anything in your bin (CamID, Receiver Info...). Just the Keys (in case you are not patient enough to wait for the program to autoroll).

Magua: I don't understand why you need a programmer, you can program your AVR using your PC. Or ask a friend to do it, because it needs to be done once, and never have to be touched again. My b.i.l did it for me more than 2 years ago. Get a junk PC that you can buy dirt cheap these days (or maybe even free from friends and relative ?) and run in dedicate mode. A P133 will be fine, a stronger machine might give you more leeway, because some emu prog need more juice than the others. Linux prog are the most efficient, some people reported making them run on 486DX-33. That way we can recover some damage done to the environment by Gates & Co. :p
I very rarely get ecm'ed. My PC is always on, the IRD's are off (power cut off using the power bar switch) when not watching TV, maybe that is the reason ??! :p
