DTV or Dish, that is the question

After adding up all the pieces for testing dish my total was around $500. I can get DTV with 2 recievers (one standard and one is a DVR/Tivo) in a package for a less than $439/yr for a one year contract. Get new cards too that are unning sky high right now.

Or I can get Dish and get a 510 DVR with 2 310 receivers for $494/yr.

Note: the above packages are basic 110 or 60 channel programming and do not include local taxes, but do include locals.

Now my dilemma, If I go to dish I can take one of the 301's and start testing for an additonal 150 max. OR I can go to DTV and wait for a P4/P5 hack since I do have the cards and I will be watching TV for at least a year.

So many choices, which one would you go with? :repuke:

Fubr, I wanna watch TV. I have 4 recievers, 6 good HU's and until recently have been enjoying TV. Over the last few months my script did not even blink, now the channels are fading away like an old soldier.

So my options are to buy a $100-$150 P4 card and wait, or update my systems for Digital Dolby 5.1, DVR/TIVO and get some additonal cards to play with or move to DISH for a while.

Oh, and I like Dave, without him I would be on cable (Paying $$$) or C-Span with a huge motorized dish. :)

Hmm, I think I talked myself into the Dish Network. This way I keep my S.O. happy and have an additional 301 that I can mod for around $150 and open the airwaves, not to mention having some fun playing around with something new. I then can wait until the dust settles to see what happens to the P4/P5 streams. I remember the first HU hacks, they were very pricey and many of us used the H cards until they shut them down, by then the HU's were more affordable. And if my memory serves me correctly, the HU stream was already hacked and being offered for at least a year prior to the H stream being shut down. Not crying that the sky is falling, but it doesn't look good for the short haul. MHO I hope I'm wrong, but need TV now or my life will be miserable. Where is American Idol, Bachelor, Swan, etc. etc. Get my drift. :rolleyes:

I understand . I also have a few HU and 2 hughes 5th gen and 2 rca 2 gen.
I do have some p4's though waiting on future , in past I always had dave in the bedrooms and main tv but seeing into the future I kept one dish up beside my side..lol really right here next to me.
after seeing it was coming down the tube I was commited to seeing the very last drop of stream on the hu but since I have converted all over to charlie seem to have lost the desire to even watch the last channell drop. .
got dish 500 on 2 and 119 on 2 for now. Damn quads are $200.
anyway Dave was my favorite but I dont have time for his bullshit or chasing the p4 hack, crak, leak, mythe or whatever.I will wait till it comes to me, I am sure I am missing alot of good reading on the p4 threads but I am spending my extra time watching American Idol, ect... I am seeing the same channels and then some just am not feeling the joy. I like that sound dave had right before a Free-per-view also.

I picked up a NIB (new in box) quad legacy lnb off ebay for $65. There were others to be had. I hate ebay, but this time it came through for me. I went ahead and left my three Dave units plugged in and the sat aimed. Then I got three A/B switches and set my Dave and Charlie units up in the same rack. If the P4 is cracked I will be running Charlie and Dave on all three of my TV's and switching between the two with the flick of a switch. I prefer Dave myself. Better/more PPV's, the football package and the recievers have better interfaces in general. The porn is better on Charlie though. But I'll be damned if I will ever pay Dave another cent. That corporation already has way too much of my money. If your gonna sub, I would recomend Charlie over Dave any day.

Yep, Fubr and JT, that's the way I'm gonna go. I like your setup JT and I think I'll do the same. I should have two 301's moded and running, not sure if I can get the 522 or 510 mod though. I'll have to start browsing the chat rooms for Charlie.

I'll just keep Dave around and connected in case of new testing scenerio's. I'll find a P4 somewhere cheap. It would be nice to have both systems active so you coulde have a 99.999% uptime. :rolleyes:

FUBR, I disagree... A prudent tester should always leave as many options open as possible. One nerver knows what the testing future may hold for you.

Sub Dave and get the TIVO and 3 more units for the minimum 1 year sub. It is worth it just for the dual tuner Tivo. that will give you 4 cards that may or may not be hackable one day. Now you can put one or two of them at a friends house and split the cost and if you need your NFL season ticket sub it between you. Disable the phone line jack you will not want someone' kids to order a bunch of PPV's, you can get all them from Dish. Get a Dish net reciever used or hacked (get the right one, do some resarch) you can get all the Movie channels, and sports other than the NFL Sunday ticket, Porn . Now your covered
