I know I'm supposed to get a buffer jtag for my 3100 reciever, but all I can seem to find are the e-jtag and quad jtag... I can't solder worth shit and I don't wanna ruin my reciever... can I use the e-jtag or quad jtag or am I at risk of damaging the reciever... I keep reading about the j31 but no one I can find sells it...

Although a buffered is better, a quad will do. I've reflashed 3100 before, just didn't get it on the first few tries. Actually, it was more like 10. But I did get it eventually. The j31 is also a non buffered but more difficult to hold it still on the contacts for lengthy period of time. They're great for erasing SA3 after being ECM'd. Especially if the IRD has no jtag port cut out in the casing. If yours doesn't, I recommend making your own cut out using a Dremel tool. Then get the Quad. Either one will not damage the receiver.
I just got into Dish and picked up a universal bufferred jtag off of ebay for $30 incl. delivery. I used it on my 2 DP301-10's without a hitch - no problems, easy to do and without needing to hold it - it clips on the case.... Actually, when I look at it - I could have built it with one eye behind my back - but I'm to lazy.... Now waiting for my locks and ISO programmer....
What do you use duckworthy? Did you make your own? If so how?
