I have a desubbed 7200 ird for which i have the boxkeys. I want to put it back into the stream and get a new sub on it using the old subbed card that came with it. I am also going to install a new HD on it. I am going to do a hard reset on it to reset it back to its factory settings, (since I don't care about anything stored in the memory right now) - my question is...will resetting it or putting a new sub on it change the boxkeys i have for it? Thanks

Do not take this as written in stone, I have seen cam id's change. very rare. In my experance I have never seen box keys change once unit is authorized,(married to cam).
like I have never seen it and I have seen quite a few sets of box keys come and go and they were always the same unless someboy tried to read or write a new flash.
if you have not ever put the HAT(sombereo) on it then I would not worry.
only thing is if it is an old IRD and the boxkeys are still in the nvm after you stream it and do the reset it will be fffffff in the NVM

i'm sorry i don't understand what you mean by that last part? are the boxkeys stored in the NVM? Here's the procedure i was going to use for the reset - if i do this will i lose my boxkeys? (i copied and pasted from another thread in this forum):

Hope this helps someone with their 7200. This is the ultimate reboot. You will lose all of your settings but this method brings your 7200 back to original factory condition.

Unplug your IRD and plug it back in, hit the options button on the remote. Then press 65026809. After the flashing lights, turn on the IRD at the panel.

Go to Factory Tests. Select E*diagnostics. Then you need to Reset both NV Rams. After you reset turn off the IRD.

Once the unit completely powers down. Press Options button and press 32768 wait for the end of the light show. Pull out your access card from the back and put it back in. When the green light stops flashing, power up the unit again and go through the start up settings just like it was a new receiver.

I find that this cleans a lot of the junk out of the unit and I seem to get fewer black outs for a while. Or at least it seems that way.

Hope this helps in the future.
<end>

thanks for the quick response

the ones I have reset using that code have not changed my boxkeys.
there is a code tha will bring up you non volitale info screen and back in the old days the box keys were in there somewhere but reversed, they are f'out now is what I meant.
you should not loose them using that code.
You may want to wait on Smurftoon or one of the others who are pretty knowledgable with those units before though, always better safe than sorry,
me I dont think they wil change . I reset one and it dint

Boxkeys do not ever change unless you reflash the tsop to a dif image. 7200 has no jtag so you prob will never reflash it.
Dumb Question? Why sub a 7200, They never get ecm'd, If you have the boxkeys just load a card and use it? If you want to sub with a PVR, Get a new free dish one and the 7200 will get you 350-400 on ebay.

Are you saying that the 7200 never gets ECM'd? So if you were to run magic card or plastic with a 7200 it would be very unlikely to get ECM'd? I can get the box keys from the rom3, no prob. I was going to sell my 7100 on ebay, but I may want to reconsider. I figured the rom3 alone was worth the $50 I paid for the unit.

BTW- I sure am glad to have your input of late Birdie. Thanks for hanging around. I'm pretty new to Charlie. 1,100 of my posts were made on the Dave side of the fence.

You have been great here JT, Yes a few models are never ecm'd, 7100/7200 are two of them. This is why the older dishplayers sell for so much on ebay. With these you will end up redoing the card for expired tiers if anything. SAVE THAT CARD, DO NOT TOUCH IT YET. You need the boxkeys for that ird from the card since it has no jtag port. If the card is locked, PM me and we can get the info from the card. This is most important or the pvr is useless.

Well, I was going to sell it, but now I'm having a change of heart. I was gonna keep the rom and sell the IRD. Now I see that they are a matched pair that really should not be seperated. I'm pretty sure I can unlock that rom3 rev381 myself now. I really don't like the guide or that webTV crap, but if it doesn't get hit, that's a pretty major plus. Please check your PM. Thanks.
