Jtag help!

HI guys,
I have just built a Jtag(buffered) from a kit.. I really didn't have any problems putting it together.. yet something is not working and I not sure what it is,,

I have a model 3700 ird it has not been hit or anything like that..
I hooked up the jtag.. turn on the receiver with card in and turn on the jtag I had it hooked directly to my printer port no cord in the middle..

all that Jkeys was seeing was 0XFFFFFFFF every thing else was grayed out
I was trying to get my box keys..

this is a Xsub and I ran a AVR3 on it years ago.. I haven't had it in the stream in years.. should I have put it on the preview channels to get new keys..

also this is a rom 10.card. I have a extra rom 3 -288 I know nothing about the Rom 3
I just pick it along the way while testing dave

any advice would be great.. I am a newbie with Charlie.. what I did know I have forgot..although I have been reading the last 2 weeks trying to brush up and trying to bone up on all the new stuff..
