just got a dish 3000 receiver, since it has no JTAG port, how can i go about programming my card? have a 2700 model receiver on its way, but won't arrive for about a week or so, any chance of getting the 3000 to work until then? any help would be greatly appreciated!

Since 3000 has no port, If you have the matching card it was subbed with you will need to get the boxkeys off the card, If the card is locked use rom3popper to open it and read the card, click on data edit and mark the boxkeys in perm marker on the receiver bottom.
Do not put open ppv on it if you want to keep it running for now.

since the 3000 doesn't have a JTAG port, will the receiver get hit and get fried since there is no way to "repair" the TSOP?

For The x000/x500 Type Receivers, You Need To Install A Digitial Lock To Protect The Tsop From Being ECM'd. Not Easy Or Cheap To Fix If It's Been ECM'd.
