RS232 port

I have my 301-013 disassembled to 'tinker' with.

Next to the JTAG port, there's a 9 pin RS232 port.

Does anyone here know if this port is active. If so, is it standard serial?
Does this box respond to serial commands?

Anybody ever tinkered there?
