Thinking about going to future shop, buying a 3100 package from them and installing it myself (that's not a problem). I realize they want a contract so I was thinking about signing up for the minimum package/time. With that being said, should I be able to pick up a ROM10 card (open), and somehow use my SUB'd cam ID? Just wondering if the cards they send out can even be read at all, I would like to use my SUBD info and go from there.. Suggestions? (Reason for buying it from FS, seems cheaper then buying dish/bev stuff elsewhere).

You need (if possible) an IRD that has a ROM10. Doesn't matter where you go, If you go to say...FS or Costco in a populated area, chances are that you'll get a ROM11 with the IRD. These places move a lot of stock so the stock rotation is fast. If you know of a shop that sells them in a smaller town, there's bigger chances of getting a ROM10 if it's been sitting on the shelf for awhile.

If you sub with a ROM11, you won't be able to use that CAM ID on a ROM10...

Nothing can be done with ROM11 as of yet...

Safe to say that they make you sign up for a contract before you get the IRD and card? Ideally I would like to just buy it and walk out :)

Try saying it's a gift and that the recipient will take care of the subscription.

It's worth a try!

You can! GO to RS and they have 301's setting on the floor, just buy one with dish without a long term contract. (It is month to month). THe cost is 19.99 a month, actually 29.99 but they give you a $10 credit on your bill every month for up to 20 months. That's what the guy told me, but I opted for the 510/301 combo pack and reuqired a 12 month sub.

Cost of hardware is $149, or if you get two 301's it is $199. ck it out.

I bought my set-up from FS also , it is called the 3120 system , 3100 IRD and a 20" dish or pan ..
They want a credit card even if you pay cash , if you don't sub to them within 3 months they will charge that credit card a couple hundred bucks for about 6 months ..

If you say it is a gift they still want the credit card and they want to know who it is going to ( billing address ) , address ph# everything .. If they don't sub in 3 months your CC gets charged so you are still screwed !

You do not have to take out a sub at the time but like I said if you don't within 3 months your screwed , also if you just take the basic sub at the store you will get $100 bucks off the price of the system ...
Once the sub is taken you are locked into it for one year , then you can do what you want ...

I hope this helps ...

I picked up a 3100 last week, and all that is said above is true, even the G.D. ROM 11 card that came with it.
It only came with one LNB, I assume for 91.
What if I were to call and tell them that I didn't get an LNB at all, and got a replacement. Are the LNB's the same? Would I benefit from having two?
And yes, I did think about saying there was a no show on the card but, that would be pushing it.
I didn't necessarily plan to hack Bell but, maybe I'll load it up for the year that I'm locked in anyway.
I'm ordering the stuff from Mili for Dish.

VERY HELPFUL to say the least!!!

I went and bought the second LNBF from Bell World myself , $89 bucks plus tax and comes with two SW21 multi switches ...
They don't give the second away , this is Canada !
Of course you will get more channels with the second LNBF and they are the same , the first one will go on the left of the Y bracket ( 91 ) and the second on the right ( 82 )
Yep you heard me right , 91 sat is first and then 82 sat is second ...
To bring it in you will have the dish pointed at the 91 sat , then you will just rotate the pan till the second or 82 comes in ...

I just purchased a 3120 system as well! I've already done the Jtag phone line modification and im not sure if I should convert the ird's to dishnet yet becuase i have to take the one month subscription? When you phone to activate can bell tell if your locked on to the dish net signal? Or do they just send the signal regardless? Also what is the best setup if i wanted to have one reciever on bell and the other on dishnet? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
