Guys & gals, there are a lot of people coming on board for dish from DTV and you are nonly new to charlie. And there are some real newbees like myself just coming on board. I tested dave for a week before he crashed. I owe lanopie an apology for posting some of this as a reply instead of a new thread. The moderaters and the old heads on this site are just fabulous. They have asked us several times to read, read and read. Most of the stuff we ask has been answered several times and I admit it easier to ask than to look. Milis getting started, His how to's and the forum files are available to everyone. Just for instance the first thing he tells us is how to identify our rom cards and find out if it is marked, so on and son on.
Since I am so new, I guess I should not be saying much, but I think we would all be better off and more knowlegeable if we looked up some of these instructions and answers before we jump on the forum with a question. This is one great site and we probably wont find another one even close to it. So lets read, read and all pull together. Thanks for letting me sound off and hope no one is offended.

That is a good post, 2 Thumbs up!!
There is really nothing simialir between Dave and Charlie other than a card slot and it hooks to a dish and tv set. Two very different systems with totally dif hacking.
What I should do being a tester in both is write up a simple guide with the differences in dave terms to help dtv peeps learn charlie. I'll be working on that and get it posted soon.....

You can say that again! Damn, Charlie can be confusing. Notably more challenging that Dave was; in my opinion at least. I think what Charlie did to himself though, in a way anyway, is put so much different hardware out there that even he has a tough time keeping up with all the differences. No one hack will work 100% of the time, but no one countermeasure will work 100% of the time either.

i belive a conprehensive guide neede to be started and have everyone add their 2 cents and different experiances. i am no dummy and since migrating to dish all i have been doing is reading and reading and reading some more. and after two week i still am not able to get any channels.(well actually i did get some music before my ird got zapped an d now i am in the process of, for 2 days , trying to do a eprom flash). there is a lot of information out there and 90 % is garbage, why should we have to go through it all to find a snippet of good data. i would like to remine you guys in the know of a phase some one said " I CAN SEE SEE FAR BECAUSE I HAVE STOOD ON THE SHOULDERS OF SOME GREAT PEOPLE" if there is one comprehensive guide you will spend less time answering same questions over and over.
thanks
ps. step one: have patience and forget about dtv
