You have been hit with an ECM. You need to Jtag it and delete sector SA5. Then restream. Are you following me? If not, let me know.

Ok, tell me exactly what you did when you read the IRD with Jkeys.

I read it (ird) with jkeys, then I clicked on "flash programming" then I went and changed it from Full and selected Sa5 and clicked erase. I then did it two more times. still got bad location #

Not sure if your saying your having problem with Jkeys or when you
put the IRD back into the stream.

Just did my receiver, have a 301.010 IRD, so I had to clear SA3, 3 times.
Once I plugged the IRD back in, it was very non-responsive a nd virtually
dead until the update was finished. Powered on but not too much else.
It took maybe 30-60 mins to finally finish process. Once it's done you'll
see the location id change... Be patient..

Hey Mountain,,next time you get hit with an ECM, delet sector SA8 on that 301 instead of the SA3. I find it works better.

Wash, restream it, and let it take the update...Dont rush this..

Ozz, Don't know what you mean, Wash? Restream it?

After deleting the SA3 sector 3 times. I disconnect the JTAG, plug the sat back in and connect the power cord. All went fine, just was in limbo for a while, again
this is the first time doing this.

By deleting SA8 instead, what will happen?

That was directed towards washboy, the restream part. The first part was directed towards you.

I have a 2800 receiver that was ECM'd. The location ID is at 00000001 or something like that. I erased SA5 in JKEYS and put system back in stream. Now I only get channel 9900 and when I select that channel it's doing some kind of a count down. It's got like and hour and a half left. Is it updating? Should I just wait untill the countdown is done and see if the channels come back? Thanks for any help.

that don't sound right. the whole deal should've only taken about 10-15 minutes.
if it does'nt work out flash the whole tsop and get it going again. if you aren't up to date(797) try erasing the sa5 again this time do it without the card.

Thanks pyle, I'll give that a shot. I'll let you know the outcome. I thought that was weird that it would take that long but who knows. I only has 5 minutes left, so I'll see what happens.

Now I'm really confused. After it finished counting down (is that normal), it started counting down from 8 hours again. The software version is at 797PCASD-N, which I believe is current but the location ID is at 00000001. I don't know what to do?

i've never seen such a countdown. there's a casa in the bank. see if you have the same bootstrap. maybe just flash the whole thing and see what happens.

Hey pyle, I backed up my TSOP and EEPROM but when I go to write it back to the IRD I get a bunch of errors. The JATAG I made was just with the 100 Ohm resistors and I think it might not be getting enough voltage from my serial port, not sure? Should I try shortening the cable length? Its about 7 inches right now. I think if I could rewrite my TSOP and EEPROM to the IRD and then put a digital lock on that I might be ok. Am I on the right track?

What about doing a junkyard on it? I'm not sure what to do at this point? How do I short it out? I've read on it and it says to short SB39 and SB40 to ground. Is that right? Or do I short the two together? I really wish I could get this thing going. thanks

i'd stay away from the junkyard fix for now. also if you did'nt already try to write the eeprom there's no need to touch that either, just got to write that tsop. i notice you said your connected to the serial port. that can't be right . the jtag has to connect to the lpt(printer port).the female 25 pin on the back of the computer. 7 inches is short enough, otherwise how will your reach the back of the computer. doublecheck your connections:
2-2
3-3
4-4
5-6
13-5
18 thru 25 to the ground bar.

and if that don't work try removing the resistors. i don't use them but do it at your own risk.
also hit detect within 3 seconds after pluging in the ird. let me know how you make out.

now i think i know where you're getting that 8 hr countdown from. when you don't have the card in you get segments of the browser bar on the top of the screen. does it look like this Time Left: 4:33?. you never got the erase in. probably since your jtag isn't working right.

I'll try JTAGing it without the resistors. I'm using the only 25 pin connector on the back of the computer. Thanks for the help.

Help!
I have a 3900 that went down due to ECM, location ID 000001, I JTAG'd and erased sa30 three times, put back into the stream but the IRD still hasn't powered up after like an hour or more. Is it time to freak out now?

I get no channels. My location ID has numbers,
but my card cam ID is "S and then all 000000's"

Any suggestions as to what my problem might be?

I did go over to Mili's store and pick up a TSOP for my 3900, ran it through flashedit 2.o first made a personal dump bin for the flash programmer and then made a second one called virgin eeprom, flashed them both onto the box with JTAG quad buffer...put in the MC and everthing is just f**king fine except for the PPV and my womans Time Life Channel. Does anybody know how the MC is working with BEV & PPV channels there?
