First I wanted to to say thanks for all the help. Things are going kinda slow
for me but without all the help for everyone I'd be at a stand still.
My question is regarding getting the dish set and receiving signal on
my initial install. I have a 301.010 IRD and a ROM10. I'm subscribing to
Mili's blocker as well. Programmed the card all the way upto
installing the blocker, and realized that I need an unlock code for
winexp5.4 and am awaiting back the unlock key.
Without the card in the 301.010 the IRD is useless, cant even go the
the setup menu, very different from DTV.
Question: Can I place the card in the stream without the blocker installed?
What can/would happen, any downside?
Again thanks in advance.

Since I have not lined the dish up yet or can tell
if I'm getting any signal.... Can I use my old DTV(2nd gen Sony)
to look for signal? If I take the 110deg feed from the DISH
into the sony and use the setup menu for the SONY?
I think I'll try this, any suggestions are more than welcomed..
BTW, When I initially plug my 301.010 IRD(New from box, so I thought)
I'm getting loc. 00001. I cleared flash-1 SA3 3 times, but doh.....
I have not lined the dish up yet.... Not sure if it will receive an update
or even power up. Did this about 5-10 min. ago, so I'll wait 30min
and then see...

I don't know much about most of what is discussed here (stil doing much reading), but i do know that a battery powered signal meter (something such as a Digisat II) sure comes in handy when doing a lot of dish alignment , about 80 bucks from RAtshack comes witha nice little leather case too,

Thanks.. I just plugged the Sony in and getting no signal....
I'm about to go and mess with the alignment outside to see if
I can get any. Since I don't know how the signal meter in the SONY
works, i.e. just raw power measurement, or actually looking for Dave
signal, I'll be playing a bit in the dark...
I'll look into the rat shaq meter.

do you have a Dish 500 or Dish 300 ?(one LNB or two?)..........either way, set your dish to the proper angles and once you lock 119 you have it.......if you find it using a dave ird then you will most likely get a signal but i will read something like wrong satellite or somethin like that. when you get a signal just use a compass to cross reference your azimuth with where you are supposed to be at

It's a dish 500, composite 2LNB's. How do I tell if the signals
coming from 119 or 110?

without the proper receiver or haveing a sig meter it is difficult, the best you will be able to do is find where it should be pointing according to your postal code, then line it up using a compass, like if you were trying to set to 219 degrees.....find that with your compas, line your dish up then hope for the best, it would also help to have another person help you that way they can tell you when you get a signal, but the bewst thing i would think would be to wait til ya get the blocker insert card and then align dish.....otherwise it a lot of guesswork without a meter

Just borrowed one of those little Natellite signal meters and I think?? I aligned
to the right sat, looks close to where the compass setting should be.
Again, I had to apply the quick ECM fix, since I had loc 0001 on the IRD, by
erasing SA3 on flash-1 3 times. Current conditions are that I'm getting a black screen with no card in the slot. Power led is on the 301.010 IRD with it blinking every few minutes. Kinda stuck until till I figure something out or get soome advice.
Before erasing SA3 I did do a save of the TSOP. I'm wondering If I should
write that saved file to the TSOP.
Any suggestions??? Please!!!

Don't put the card in like I did and get rev'd to A23 (DOH !!!)
I managed to line up my dish by sticking in an HU card, and then removing and quickly going into Menu,Dish Align - you get maybe 15 seconds to check the signal before any nags - I used a compass and got close enough to pull in a decent signal w/o any realigining. Diff't from DirecTV, no doubt.

I see on lyngsat that the info channel, NASA, and AngelOne are FTA. Can these be safely used for aligning the dish?
