Hi all. Last night I got a call from daves sales people wanting me to come back and sub with dtv. They were promising me all kinds of stuff. I told them I have a sub with c-band but I might be interested. I also told them I had some old dtv equipment if i chose to go back to dave. Anyway they wanted to send an installer to my house and set up new irds with cards and even a new dish. I told them I have to think on it and to call back later. They were very pushy though.Any suggestions on how to handle this if i decide to sub? I'd like a few virgin p5s. Thanks otherside

Now, now ...... dave gave you a lot of free TV over the years.
It's time to give some back to dave. I do ...... but I'm thankfull for the many good years he gave me using the H and HU. I don't know about you but I don't think crooks should call other crooks .... crooks! He he. That's just one old man's opinion.

As for answering the original topic what to do about subing to a new P4 or P5. That's easy. When I subscribed they offerened free IRD's, free cards and free installation. I told them you have expensive Sony IRD's and if they wanted to replace the same kind of IRD's or newer versions then I would accept all this free stuff. Since the free stuff they proposed were cheep RCA IRD's and the like, I was not interested in downgrading my existing equipment that I had already purchased. Since they won't give you expensive Sony gear they still want your business and will send you the cards if you subscribe them. No coontract to sign and no free stuff except the cards and no installer. Best of all it's on your older IRD's which do not lock out hacks like the new IRD's do. Besides, the best thing is an IRD that can have the IRD number change whenever you want to. Then when P4's are cloneable you can protect the card using the same IRD number. You can do this with some versions of the Sony B50. Better yet, for $5 each you can get multi cards for your existing system using your equipment. Ha ha, these are time share IRD's and cost reduction ideas. They don't check all IRD's connected to phone line. I think one line connected is good enough since install phone lines in bed room 2 and 3 take time to do ... right?

Don't accept the new unmodifiable IRD's even for free. They will conceed to your desires since they do want your monthly payments. You'll win if you're firm. Although if they give you the expesive IRD's of your choice you may want to conceed to there freebies since you will be getting big bucks spent by them plus the free service. The draw back is a one year contract. You got the upper hand when they are begging you to come back to dave. I did and on my terms. I don't mind some pay back to them for all the fun they gave me for free.

Anyway that's my 2 cents.

I used to give Dave my money. We had a difference of opinion. If Dave wasn't such a gangster I never would have taken the time to learn how to hack him. I bet Al Capone had more morality than Dave has.

They offered me a Tivo deal for a year contract. I said I might purchase if it wasn't for the contract. They said if I just signed the installer's paperwork and installed it myself, they would wave the year contract. I said send it.

better read that paperwork, usually the installer carries with him the copy of the contract for you to sign....dish tricked my buddy that way......he didn't read it , thought it was just for installation purposes.....6 months later he disconnected..... hit him for 240 bucks on his credit card for breach of contract!.....

daves sales called me back last night, about 2 weeks after his last call to me. Anyway I told him I might consider a sub under my own conditions, no social security no. no phone lines, and I use my own equipment. They agreed and wanted to send out new cards right away. I told them I was currently subbed to a c-band outfit and that I wasn't quite ready to make the switch. They wanted to know how much I pay a month and how many channels I got. I don't think they expected another alternative such as c'band. otherside

been 3 + yrs since subbed. for several days this phone # showed up on caller id same as my cell# but 800 area code. curiosity wore me down. i called # back, it was dave, sh*t.

well i explained i had cable, and my name was frank but my bro (name) had lived here several years ago but he DIED.

rep gave (seemed to me) heart-felt "oh i'm so sorry to hear that" i'll take your # off our list.

p.s. the "he died line" works with bill collectors, etc, etc. after-all we are pirates.
