I posted this up on the ID web and think it may be of interest to everyone here also on Mili's, to get by, caused by the recent death of the HU hack so as to do something with your now realized big time, free time we all have now. So if you need something to try, to work on, then try this .....................................
************************************************** ************
This compliments and does not replace Bartmans DVD burning procedure posted on another thread. It also adds Bittorent a user file sharing system to get free stuff, like apps, cr@cks, movies, music etc.
First ....... niknak's way to burn DVD's:
There are two great free programs to down load:
DVD DECRYPTER
DVD SHRINK
You can find them I think using google search.
Then you may also want to find and d/l ALCOHOL 120% with cr@ck to have a super utility in your DVD tool box.
And maybe add POWER DVD, if you need to play movies on your computer or test before burning to expensive media. You may also not know that you can play full size DVD movies on your computer without having a physical DVD player on your computer system. POWER DVD does this for you. It's not free but bittorrent can get it for you with cr@ck as well as the other goodie progies you may need. You find those progies yourself searching for the many d/l sites. I use Bittorrent to d/l most of these apps myself ...... but more on that later.
You use the DVD DECRYPER to rip and create a VOB file system. On larger 4.5 - 9 plus Gb files, can be split and shrink back to single 4.7 GB DVD media using a combo of progies shown herein.
DVD DECRYPTER will decode almost all protected video DVD's with no problem in a single pass. You can then play the VOB files it creates directly from your hard drive using a progie like Power DVD before burning it to a blank DVD media.
You can use DVD SHRINK to access the VOB files especially those above 4.7 GB (or less) to shrink it to a single ISO (bin type) file ready for burning. Although some progies like to work from a virtual file rather then from the ISO file directly.
Using DVD Decrypter, you can also create a an ISO file (since it can both read and write ISO's) on your hard drive to copy a master DVD file for burning to a DVD. ISO files are just like DVD ready to burn bin files. This file can also be tested before burning any DVD's by loading this file to a virtual DVD disk. The Alcohol 120% progie does this very nicely. Then play the ISO file again to make sure you have a perfect working ready to burn copy. Do this always when burning a shrunk down or compressed file using the DVD SHRINK progie. Finally, having an ISO file that's verified working should safely make good DVD copies of the original and avoid making beer coasters on unuseable media (non RW's). Just load the ISO using the Alcohol's virtual drive and copy it using either Alcohol or DVD Decrypter to burn the finalized ISO.
Then also, if you want to burn DVD's using avi type files and other video formats (there are several) you may want to make ISO files using a progie like Roxie Media Creator (not free) but the coversions makes very large ISO files that need compression and lose a lot of quality when shrunk back to DVD maximums. If you only want to play avi files on your computer and not on TV TOP DVD's then keep the avi file as is without any conversion and store the avi's on DVD's for multi movie storage. For example, I have three (3) full size movies on one DVD (like Alien, The final countdown and Saving Private Ryan) all on one 4 GB DVD stored in avi format. It only plays on my computer but that is better then the low quality conversion to DVD to play on the TV's when using TV TOP DVD's. Transfering them using a video card to TV is awfull quality but is in the eyes of the beholder and his/her choice.
Now for BITTORRENT.
Where do you get avi converted movies or full resolution DVD RIPS? BITTORRENT sites are one source. This is a file sharing, user share system for free interchange of files between agreeable users. It works better with those having a broadband modems since these files can be very large (200 megs to 4 gigs plus). A full size movie (DVD RIP) is about 4 GB's and takes about 18 plus hours to d/l using Bittorrent. The AVI movies d/l very fast in comparison but all d/l's run at about 20-40% of your normal modem speed. Not great but not bad for broadband but ultra, ultra slow for 56K modems. Although having a 56K modem and bittorrent can be used to d/l progies like Alcohol 120% (with cr@ck) and is very possible and practicle.
As you can imagine the bittorrent sites are getting complaints for copy infringements. So how long this will last is still unknown. I guess you can also use the new service now available that advertise "all the DVD you want to view for only $20 per month". I just saw that same ad on Best Buy in there store. The DVD burners are going to sell like hot cakes ..... copy, copy ... copy.
Anyway, to get bittorent to work, you need to download a bittorrent client progie first. There are many available. I like BITSPIRIT the best. It's all free ....... like most client progies are free with many d/l sites to get one to try out and to keep. Then you need to find the many bittorrent sites to see what files are available for shared d/l. Since this is a file sharing system or process, you not only d/l the file you also u/l that which you have all partially done, automatically and under the control of your client progie. Bitspirit, that I like, allows you to control and see the data movement in real time displaying all the users you get or xfer to and can tweek the total process to maximize the transfer speed or even black list those that don't play fair (like only d/l but rairly upload). Bet you can figure out what a seed is and what a leach or leacher's are. Getting something we don't have is being a leach or leacher but we can become a seed when we complete the down load to upgrade our status to a seed. It's a user share system and most of us play fair where as we give as much as we take. It looks overwhelming at first but I assure you, it's quite easy to do. The problem is you get to see toooooooo much data at one time when getting started in this hobby. But it's fun when it works on your very first bittorrent success. You'll learn what to do very fast. There are many bull boards to ask questions and exchange results.
For those that just lost there HU's, bittorrent will keep you from going into movie withdrawell pains. You still wait for the fix but happy when it's done many hours later. Having a lot of blank media and large hard disk space is a must, also going to NTFS on a BIG spare partion for d/l space may be nice, if you want to work with many files and those greater than 4 gb's. This NTFS file system is only good for the likes of the XP and Win 2K plus O/S. Although most d/l's are less than 4 GB so FAT 32 file systems work good enough for storing large files on your hard drive.
This is just more toys for us to play with since the death of the HU gives us h@ckers more time on our hands to do something different and maybe worth while. DVD's are fun to do .... so is BITTORRENT to get what you don't have. It's another form of 3M.
If you try it, you'll most likely get hooked on it.
