Malware fix ?

I have a friend that has gotten ahold of some malware. This little tidbit of software has taken over his home page and funnels all his internet efforts to a site called something like 'free host'. If he changes his homepage, when he restarts his computer it just changes it back. Has anyone out there had experience with this form of malware? Any suggestions on how to get rid of it will be most appreciated. Thanks.
