I jut got my first set of dishnet equipment.

I have a 3800 and a Legacy dual with two sw-21.

My question is... what does the switch test really do?
I was trying to run it before I started lining the dish up to make sure I have everything cabled up right.

Does the test depend on a single from the birds to complete?

Right now I'm getting "no switch detected".

yep need a signal unless most of the time. one sat at a time.
basically it set the ird to what channels and what transponders it need ti switch to when you are wayching tv,
it kinda like the ird and rhe switch courting to see if they are gonna like being together.
it the ird adjusts its setting depending on what switch you have, if it has no signal at all then it does not know what to do.
"in my own words"
some may say you need no signal but I found many times it said no switch detected until I got at least some indication of a signal
