I read about this as well. I think it is for BEV in Canada. They are not nice when they catch someone. That is why I don't have anything to do with BEV.

I remember awhile back when BEV was trying to chase the DTV storefronts away. When the courts asked the DTV rep. Thier response was something along the lines of " we are losing nothing here as we do not offer our service in this country"
Perhaps that has changed but at this point the dish on my house still says Direct TV (Although it is useless at this time). I laughed at the people that were painting them a while ago. If it points at 228 SW then it is not fooling anyone.

Again I do not think the Crimestoppers bill is for DTV just BEV in Canada. I will keep an eye on it though. A lot of the house have Dave dishes, have not talked to many though. I know they won't rat as they are in the same boat.

Everyone is worried about this and I don't know why. The RCMP can't even take care of the "problem" of existing grow-ops(in the tens of thousands), and they only bust what, a hundred a year. The courts are backed up enough and I doubt they are going to back them up even more trying to get search warrants for some free TVers. Yeah, it's against the law, who cares. I treat sat signals just like my car radio sigs, if its there by god I'm going to figure out how to get it.
If anyone thinks the cops are even going to care about us they're badly mistaken, I bet half the cops out there are pecking away at this just as much as we are, especially with the measely salary they pay our guys up here(I think they start around mid 40,000's per year) so just like the next guy he is going to want whatever he can get for free or cheap.
So don't worry, by the time the gestapo show up on your doorstep to bust you for hacking, you'll probably be dead and buried. All canadians know the RCMP make a snail look like Speedy Gonzales.

And it's only for people who are actually programming, or have programmers... what if you pay to keep your dishnet up? nothing in the house but the dish and ird, do they just come in and search for the programmer, not find it and leave because of a crimestoppers tip??? My neighborhood nearly every house has a dave or charlie dish, they're not gonna start raiding peoples houses, especially, it just won't happen.

Do not panic guys. Did any of you see the shameless ad at Steeles & Keele in Toronto? "HU card, HU loader, DirecTV receiver $350" or something like that. That ad is there for at least a year now. This is how much RCMP cares about D****TV in Canada.

I think the gov't should or would probably give a amnesty period , say 3 months.
Too many law abiding users who got on board way before the laws said
it was illegal. Dealers told them it was legal then.
They are still voters!!! and the politicians know people love their TV.
I think people would think it would be petty of politicians to really penalize
someone for TV.
