Try writing back your original TSOP image. It's important you don't get an error message when writing your TSOP. Do you have a digital lock on? It's needs to be off when writing to your TSOP.

no .. the green light does not have to be on to write to the tsop..just plug in ird and write the bin you saved....if you get an error keep trying till you get a full write..ive had the same problem before..

Has the receiver been modded with a digital lock or any hard locks?
Did you use a JTAG with pogo pins or made one yourself and soldered the connections?
When you say it doesn't power up, I'm assuming you used your remote to switch it on or pressed the buttons on the IRD. I agree, the IRD does not need to be on when jtagging.

You said the resistors looks like they were heating up, I assume you removed the case. If you did, it's possible the case was not seated back correctly, so that it's either putting pressure switches on the front panel or not lined up. Try removing the case and using your remote to power it on.
Use Jkeys for reading/writing your TSOP. The pogo pins on the JTAG works but it sure is awkward to use. That may be the reason you encountered an error writing back the TSOP, when the pogo pins are not making a good contact.

What happens when you plug it in and connect the J-tag? Does the jkeys see anything?
