I was trying to install an eeprom lock on my 2700 and when lifting leg 7 on the eeprom the broke off flush with the IC. I tried to solder to the little piece of metal left but it's not going to work. The part number on the chip is 24LC16B. Is this chip available at radio shack or other parts stores? What all would be involved in replacing this chip and rewriting? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

if you can soulder get a new chip
Yeah, I can solder it. Where would be the best place to get one? I tried radio shacks website but I couldn't find it.

I'd search somewhere that deals with hardware etc... I believe id-discussions dot com might have a link to a place that carries extra eeprom chips.
Check it out...
Try digikey or mouser for a replacement eprom. Order a few, they are a lot cheaper than you might think. It's really easy to bend pin 7 up prior to mounting, but you should still heat the pin up a bit to make it softer before bending.

I got a few extra.
If you want one just let me know and I'll send you one for free.
They are cheap and the shipping is more expensive.

I appreciate the offer looto, but I would be happy to order one if you could tell me where you got yours and the part # that would help a lot. I'm sure it would help others in the future as I'm sure this has happened to other people. It broke very easily. Thanks

Or do a search on Digikey at http://www.digikey.com

That would help a lot. I've checked all the web sites recomended and they all pull up a lot of different part numbers. Nowing the right one would be very helpful. Thanks.
