I can not get any configuration of jtag to work. Buffered or simple jtag. I know the jtag is good because I can use either one on a rca 420 & 430 with no problems.
Does the vidmod need to be performed before jkeys can recognize or read the tsop? I know it is necessary to write to the tsop but I thought I would be able to read the tsop to back it up before performing the vidmod.
I have every thing to do the vidmod but I was trying to get a backup of my tsop before doing anything else.
all I get is 0xfffffffff - I get the same thing if I run jkeys with or without my jtag connected. I know all the connections are solid I have metered everything over & over again.
Isn't there a BFR or boot pad I can try? Could someone tell me the location and if it needs to be pulled low or high (how many volts).
Thanks in advance.

You should have backed up the tsop before installing the vidmod(you may not require the vidmod). How many tsops do you have? Try grounding R79. Are you jtaging from the top or bottom port?

I can not get my jtag to read. I have not performed the vidmod yet. This receiver has a single tsop (newer unit) 20 pin jtag port, it came with the yellow card. Build config (DAND) board (DEV3929). I have connected jtag from the bottom and the top also connected directly to the pads with same results. I have tried grounding r79. The picture shows the way I currently have it setup. I have tried connecting the jtag groung to chasis and to the ground location in picture with same results.
I have used a laptop running win 2k a desktop running XP pro and I am going to try another desktop with win98 later tonight. I know the laptop and the desktop with xp work fine with these jtags on a RCA 420 & 430 I just finished testing both jtags and both computers. I'll post win98 results later.
Any other recommendations.

Well I tried a windows 98 system still getting the same 0xfffffffff message when trying to open jkeys. Has anyone run across this before? I made another jtag (3rd one) again this one also works fine on the 420 and 430 IRD's. Now I have tried 3 different computers with win 2k, xp pro, 98 - 3 different jtags 1 buffered and 2 simple jtags ALL work fine on the RCA IRD's. But I get the same results with the 301.013, single TSOP ( 0xfffffffff ) I'm using the correct version of jkeys. The 301 still powers & works with the original yellow card but i can not get it to respond to jkeys. I have checked over & over again for a short with a 10x magnifier and with a ohm meter. What the hell is going on???
Is it possible this IRD has been locked somehow? I don't know it it was a reburb or not. I know it never had anyone mess with the jtag port beacause it was clean until I got my hands on it.
Any suggestions are welcome,
Thanks,

If I remember correct you need Jkeys that supports IRD def for the 301.013 it to detect it.

I tryed Jkeys 301C and installed def file from jkeys 2.9.1.1fixed defs updated 301.zip. Still no luck it's almost as if my jtag is not connected.
Thanks anyway, any other suggestions?

I jtagged from the top, made a cut out in the back to mount a db9 connector for ez access to jtag port. Using a simple jtag (no seems to recommend this) finally got everything working great. I think I was having a grounding problem before. With the db9 mounted to the chasis always has a good ground.

I've seen a thread which states you cannot erase a 013 until you vid mod and add 12V to eprom or something like this.
So, you CAN jtag a 301.013 without a vid mod? And it will read with the proper jkeys version? Where did you get the pics and instructions for the 013? Thnx

I only jtag from the bottom, and always have R79 connected to ground when jtaging these damn 301.013's!
