I heard something about the Nagra2 stream...is this a complete swap out or routine new card issue? New to Charlie so don't know what to make of this yet.

Nagra Ships New Cards To Charlie
This week, NagraStar has confirmed the first 4 million smart cards to be delivered as a replacement of existing cards at EchoStar. NagraCard has recently released a new generation of smart cards specifically conceived for the swap-out at EchoStar. The new smart card integrates advanced security attributes and an upgraded set of features. NagraCard will complete the delivery of the cards early in the second semester of this year.

Are these cards going to Dish Network or one of Echostar's other systems?

It will be a complete swap out. Already done in some european areas.
No one as said when it will happen here.

I have heard RUMORS on other sites that they have dumped the yellow roms already. But if chuck is switching cards they will probably not publicly announce that until he switches everyone over to yellow roms. Let him spend the $$$$ then we can all hack the new cards.

Hrrrm,

4 million cards. Thats what, 40-50% of Charlie subs last someone seen #'s?

How can they shut off the Rom2/Rom3 (I'll assume thats what these first 4 million are intended for honestly). Without shutting off the Rom10 stream. I thought they all functioned on the same level, yes or no.

Anyone care to confirm this. With the swap out being completed by
early second semester, that could be a problem.

The best bet from here, find a way around the cardless boxes via hardware, because I'm guessing that in 12-18 months time maximum, you'll see the end to the Rom2-10
:(

Granted, thats not a timeframe etched in stone, but I think with the dropping of these new cardless boxes, coinciding with this release, you are gonna see some interesting development along the next 6-12 months timeframe as far as what the head office does to make life a headache for everyone.

My understanding is that there intent is to replace rom2 and rom3 cards. I'm not sure what this will accomplish though. The rom10 and rom11's are hackable and the MC will emulate both rom10 and rom11. I think Charlie is going to have a harder time shutting down the signal pirates than Dave did. With Dave everybody was relying on the same hack. With Charlie there are just so many ways to go about it I think it will be hard to cover all the methods.

Everything older than 2 years is supposed to be swapped from what I heard. Rom 10 and 11's are less than 2 years before they were dropped ( May 2003) so no biggie. Also the yellow crack is close I think, We will see that before the P4 I bet.
I think this is again aimed more at rom 2 and maybe some 3's but more 2's
Rom 2 cannot be stream locked and free to air issues have arising from old security weaknesses with the old rom types.

I also expect to see a crack for the rom10x's before the P4....unless we get lucky with an insider that flips. The way Dave does business he does piss off a lot of people. If we get really lucky he will piss off somebody in the know.

Dave does have 2 of his top guys pissed and starting to spill P4/P5/D1. Once if any of it is found usefull you bet it's going to be posted here first.

These insights relieved some of the pressure. What do we know about the Nagra2 stream? Does this compare to va packets for hu vs. P4, where once shutoff it's lights out for the older stuff, or is it different?

A lot of work is being done on the Nagra2. You can see some at the Zacky site.

The Zacky site I found is in Spanish only. Anything in English?
