Is it absolutly nessisary to have satellites aimed at both the 110 and 119 birds in order to recieve dish network? I have a 2700 model reciever with old manual eeprom and tsop lock and don't really want to put a second satellite on my roof or buy a Dish500 dish.

Is their a guide that explains what channels are on which bird? And the next logical question, my satellite is already aimed at the DTV bird, what are the degrees on the DTV bird(s)? (Just to give a general idea on which direction I need to move the satellite to pick up signal.)

rtm will tell u what tiers are on 119 and 110....119 is the main sat,so u probally wanna aim ur dish at 119...119 on dn is about 5 degrees lower than dtv's sat...so start by dropping ur dish 5 degrees and u should be close...

I'm still not having any luck aiming my dish. It isn't a conventonal 18" dish, its actually about 20"-22" if that makes any difference. I lowered it to an elevation of 29.31 degrees and have been panning from 180 to 210 degrees as thats what "DishCumbia" has given me based on my lat/log and elevation. Yet no signal. If it it got a signal with DTV, I shouldn't have to worry about it being a hardware problem from LNB to cables end right?

correct. make sure your firmware is updated, shut off your lock if you dont have the right firmware. also you may want to consider buying a satellite locator, thats a guaranteed way to get a signal.

What should my latest firmware be? To be quite honest, I purchased this 2700 off E-bay over two years ago. Right about when AVR3's were the latest technology and it hasn't been in the stream since. I always meant to put aside $100 for another dish for it, but kept putting it off.

I have already programmed my card with horhay_rom3_blocker_v38 so should I clean the card and put it back in while I have the softlock off? One thing I've noticed about Dish equipment, is unlike DTV, you need to have the card in the reciever to access any of the menus...

Uh, skip the Rom Blocker question, kind of dumb to remove the Rom3 blocker...
