Try to reset the IRD for hard drive installation. It should reset the settings for that. Turn the IRD off at the front of the box, and when the light gets done flashing, press 8675309 on the remote. You will get a nice light show, and it will prepare your IRD for hard drive installation. When you turn it back on, it should think that you put a new HD in it.

yes it was the hard drive causing the problems replaced it and all is good again thanks for the help.

You said you replaced the Hard drive and it's good to go, did you do anything to the new hard drive before you install it in the IRD and it is a bigger one, reason is I want to put a 80GB maxtor drive in mine and need some feedback before I try.
