I recently upgraded my hard drive in my dishplayer. The upgrade went smoothely.. or so I thought. After I pointed the dish, the first thing it wants to do is update it self with a software update for the receiver. Well, it never gets past the first tick on the status bar. It just hangs for 5 minutes, and then says "Trouble getting update. The satellite receiver had trouble getting the update. Choose dishpointing to set up your sat dish to get a stronfer signal. Or choose update to try getting the update again"
Well, my signal is 75-80, so that isn't the problem. I have tried receiving the update several times now.. to no avail.
When I upgraded the hard drive, I used the virgin.dsk and blank.dsk files from a webpage that basically *everyone* told me to use as a guide for upgrading the hard drive. The only idea I could come up with is that the image is so old and outdated, it won't pick up any of the new updates. This seems farfetched.. but who knows. Anyone have any ideas?
My current setup is this:
Dishplayer 7200 with AVR3. The box hasn't been subjected to the stream in a year.. but as far as I know the AVR3 setup still works in the 7200 (one of the VERY few IRDs that it still works with).

I pinned a 7200 thread with about anything you could need to fix a 71/7200 series ird in it.
Dump that AVR and get a rev or magic card. The AVR's are pretty much out of business now days. The little support there is for them will end here shortly I'm afraid. (I could be wrong) There are just too many better options out there now days. Dig up that post that Birdie made regarding the 7200's. It's all there.

never mind the chainsaw I'm going to kick the ^#@^ out of the (*%$*^ TV for sure!!!I am so pissed.... I tried everything in the sticky that remotely seems like the situation and NADA... I can not get the update to load past the first tick.
I'm going into the garage for a smoke before I smash something!

I'm stuck exactly where you are: can't get past the first tick on the update screen. Have you tried more than one version of a disk image on your drive? That is the last straw for me.. I have another image I want to try out. The only problem is I can't do it until I get my new desktop built. I'm using a laptop right now, so I can't exactly hook up the dishplayer's HD to my computer and make the necessary changes. I'll let you know how it turns out when I get the new computer running (something late in the week, prolly). Please let me know what you do to it if you are successful..
thanks -

Here's a new twist.... I put back the 8 gig and fired up the unit the signal strength is 90 however when I am in "TV HOME" or anywhere it says that
"No signal is being recieved from the satellite"
has anyone ever seen this before?
I am now trying to get the TV listings and the bar is up with "Getting information" under it however as above when trying to download the update for the other hard drive the green bar has moved only one notch and just sits there.
I know the signal is good because I am using the same cable off of the 301 that works.

what are you using for an LNB?

[QUOTE=I know the signal is good because I am using the same cable off of the 301 that works.[/QUOTE]
don't get fooled i have been fightin these units for 3 + years just because your coax and switch work with a diff ird don't mean spit when your tring to get a 7200 workin. try one of both of the fixs below
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
this is directly from echo's techs
1. Unplug the Satellite In coax from the back of the receiver. (I was told that this was an important step since it prevented any satellite signal from doing anything to cause a re-boot until all the steps are completed.)
2. Unplug the receiver from the outlet for one minute.
3. Plug the receiver back in and and wait until the green light on the front panel stops flashing.
4. Pull out the Smart Card and immediately re-insert it.
5. Wait until the green light on the front panel stops flashing.
6. Using the remote control, enter "7225000" - Änote: do not hit the "options" buttonÅ. All the lights on the front panel should flash.
7. If the receiver is still off, turn it back on with the remote control.
8. At this point, the Home Page should be up with the message "Acquiring Signal" in the middle.
9. Plug the Satellite In coax back into the receiver. After a few seconds, you should get a signal.
10. Press the "Listings" button on the remote. There should be "no listings" for all of the channels.
11. Download the program guide. (On my first receiver, the download started automatically. On my second receiver, I had to go force the download through "Home"; "Settings"; "Hooking Up"; "Multiple Dishes"
The tech guy said not to turn off the satellite receiver for the next 48
hours so that the fixes that they plan on sending out can be received.
Yet another 7200 fix
If you are having problems with your 7200 and have tried all of the other codes and fixes, here is one more that I found, and it works, but there is a price. You will lose all of your settings and have to reset the IRD back up. This method brings your 7200 back to factory condition.
Unplug your IRD and when you plug it back in, hit the options button on your remote. Then press 65026809. After the light show, start your IRD with the panel button. Next we go to Factory Tests.
From there select E*diagnostics. You will need to reset both NV Rams. After doing that, turn off your IRD with the panel button. Now, once the light show quits again you will need to hit options again.
Press 32768 and again wait for light show to finish. Pull out your card, then put it back in. When the light is done flashing, power up the IRD again. Now you should be starting off just like as if the IRD had just came out of the box.
Simply follow the directions from there. This is great for reviving 7200s that have been in the stream for awhile and gets rid of junk they have collected

does not exist in the 7100 "factory diagnostics"

didn't happen... it just started me at the new dish setup and still would not update.

I recently got a 7200. I would like to get it working...I have no card yet and wondering if the magic card could work with it. also would like to set it up before I get my card. I have an open rom3 I believe but want to use the magic card b/c I also have 2700..
My 7200 also wants to dial out right away but I can get to the signal strenght and all those options.
My question: when i get my signal could I use this card(the rom 3 with who knows what on it) and let this player dial out?
Any other tidbits of useful information would be appcricated.
Thanks

total92000,
I personally don't like after market cards like the magic card cause they are only as good as the people who support them and the history on these type of cards is not good.
the 1st thing to do is get the Box Keys if you don't have them already if you have them then program the rom3 you have and be sure to add the displayer tier or you will have problems and you need sat signal from both 110 and 119 for the 7200 to work correctly
you need to check the SW , currently on the receiver. go to diagnostic screen and select receiver, check Receiver SW it should be 1.23 if not connect to your dish and get signal from sat 119 and it will update.
Now for the WEB Client SW it should be at 16917 if not it can get the upgrade via Sat if its at rev 16914, ifs its not at either one of these it will want to dial out to "microsoft" for the update and use only rom3 rom10 or rom11 on the 7200

MC is possable in a 7200 but why?
You have a rom3 use it in the 7200
and use the MC in the 2700
personally i have never used the MC card but did in the past use others like it and they only last as long as the people who sell them support them and that could end any day as did the G2 and others use what you want this all just my opion.
but you will love the 7200 once you get it working
