Can anyone tell me what program or hardware I would neet to receive Satelite TV on my computer so I can save programs and movies on my hard drive for time shifting and to burn dvd's. I'm guessing I would need an excellent vidio card. Any suggestins would be appreciated.
Thanks

If you want to do it right, you will get a video capture card. Video cards like the Radeon All in Wonder will do it too, but it will cost twice as much and it wont work as well as just a plain capture card does. Check out happauge.com. I reccomend the WinTV PVR 350.

I have happauge and it works well to test recivers with when all the tv's are in use. it records well too to hard drive but my machine in so peaked with only 500mhz p3 I dare to even try to burn svcd, I have no dvd burner so I am not gonna try it, It is great for screnn shots and snapshots though. I have an older model but as JT stated they are good products if this is the old card then I assume the newer ones are better, it is very user freindly.

I use an ATI All-in-Wonder TV card. It's just the thing for at the desk testing of video on IRD's. I also use the Scheduler to record just like my ReplayTV on my regular system.

The Hauppauge cards also come with a scheduler. It won't change the channel on the IRD, but it does turn off and on. Does the all in wonder have an s-video out to TV like the WinTV PVR does? Does the all in wonder do all the encoding right on the card in real time? The WinTV PVR cost's about $175 vs. about $350 for the all in wonder. Price is the main reason I recomend the Happauge cards over the all in wonder. I also think it's better to run two seperate cards for the two seperate functions. (you will still end up spending about $350 for a good video card and a Happauge card together, but most peeps already have a video card)
