I have a 301-13 with this burned component at CR5005 and a few questions...

Can anyone give me proper type and value for this so I can
replace this part?

What does this component control or operate and what SHOULD be the effects of it being bad ?

Can I jtag if receiver wont turn on or will this bad component prevent me from retrieving info?(dont want to waste time building jtag on this if I should just replace part first...)
Lastly any ideas as to what would have caused this part to overheat?
I am betting on a short somehow or somewhere but I am not seeing and attempts to mod....yet :)

Thanks in advance-RT

Thanks for the quick reply-looks like I have completed the final third rquirement for a tester: burning things up! haha Thanks again and I will see if I can find a similar part at Radio Shack.

I'd do a little checking into why that burnt up, Or do you already know why? That part does not cook normally.
That part has a polarity and the new one needs to be installed correctly, The white line or strip goes toward the cr5005 print on the circuit board. It looked from the pic is was too burnt to tell.

Thanks for the polarity orientation on this as it WAS too cooked to tell. I think it was burnt from someone trying to work on cutting jtag hole on the bottom with it still plugged in or possibly trying to hook up or solder jtag with power on. I will check it over thoroughly as I would really like to know what would or did cause this to happen. Thanks again and talk soon-RT
