Ok I have pointed my dish correctly and get a good strong reading from my satellite finder. Yet when I go to my menu I get the message that I should check my connections. (I did all are ok) For some reason I am not getting a signal to my ird. When I reset I get the message on my screen "searching for a satelite signal," but it never finds it. Any ideas. Im guessing a dead lnb (quad) or possibly a faulty ird. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

What Type LNB Is It, DishPro Or Legacy? What Model Receiver?

Yes. Did You Hook Up Your Satellite Finder At The Receiver To See If You Are Getting Signal There? Do You Have The Latest Software Version On The Receiver?

I hooked up the satellite finder between the dish and the receiver. No I dont have the latest software on the receiver. How do I get it, and what is it called? Do I put it on with my jtag reader and jkeys?

If You Don't Have 7.97, You Will Have To Let It Update. Try Doing A Search For Update(s), Upgrade(s). Did You Look At Your SYS INFO SCREEN For The Software Version? Does Your Sat Finder Draw Power From The Satellite Cable? If It Doesn't, Have You Checked The Voltage At The Sat In Connector On The Receiver? Do You Get Any Signal In The Installation Menu?

The software version is 719PC0DD-N. Yes the Sat Finder (Radio Shack) draws power from the Sat. Cable. No there was no signal in the Instalation Menu. Maybe I didnt give it enough time to update, how long does it take. I left it for about 1/2 hour.

You Have Yo Have A Signal To Get It To Update. You May Need To Use An Older Single/Dual LNB To Get A Signal? If 7.19 Pre-Dates The Quad LNB, It Will Never See It.

Ahh I see. I wonder if my old Dave dual lnb would work?

You should still be able to see the 119 bird even with the dated firmware. Are you sure you are hitting the 119 bird? That's where you start. Once you have a good signal on the 119, you do a switch check and see where your at with the 110 bird. There should be one transponder on the 110 bird that gives a notably stronger signal than any other; use that transponder and adjust your skew to maximize. (your install screen should tell what the best skew is if you have entered your zip code. Your ird won't update it's firmware unless your seeing the right birds. There are a lot more than two or three birds up there that will register a signal on your sat finder. I don't know how many there are, but there are at least 10.

Is there anwhere I can get the new software and put it on myself? Thanks for your help and your patience.

It Should. Looking At Some Of The Dates In The Tsop Bank, 7.19 Isn't That Old?
Do You Have A Standard Dish Quad LNB, Not Some Other brand?

Just get aimed at the 119 bird and let your ird update itself. Once pointed correctly, it will only take about 10 minutes to update that 2700 to P797. Go into your system menu and select automatic updating, and turn your receiver off with the sat cable hooked up to get the update. Save your dave lnb for putting a third Charlie bird into the mix. Once updated do a switch check then fine tune skew to max 110.

Thanks guys, I'm going to take my receiver over to my buddys place and put it in the stream for an update. In the meantime I'm going back onto the roof to try and point it in the right direction. (my friend is still in bed-lazy sod)

1st we still don't know exactly what dish you are using, a single 18" with one lmb or a dish500 with 2 lmb's ?
Your sat finder will only tell you that a signal has been found but it will not say which so use the signal strength feature in the installation guide screen. Once you select what bird youe looking for it will tell you what strength you have and whether it is the right or wrong bird. Start with 119.

Thanks guys, there wasnt anything wrong with the equipment (just the operator) I now have the software updated and am firmly locked on to 119. I'm using a Dish 500 with a quad lnb, is it possible to get channels from 110 also? If so what do I have to do? Do I just move the dish a little? Unfortunately I am now only getting one channel, the information channel, I suspect I have been ecm'd as when I hit the systems button the location ID is 00000001. Have I been hit?

Yes you have. I don't know anything about the Quad. You will now have to reflash your IRD, I have to go out for a bit . If someone else doesn't help,I'll try when I get back.

Thanks Cimba I believe I have to use my jtag reader and jkeys to erase SA5 on the TSOP then reflash the TSOP. I have never done it before and and any help you can give me would be appreciated as I dont know the mechanics and the steps that are necessary.

Go to www.bellexpress.vu and select "How to" on the left hand menu. It'll drop down a list, select " j-tag", then on the screen you'll select a heading "Quick ECM fix". Follow this thru carefully and you'll be fixed. Read then do exactly as per instructions. Good Luck.
