D/L ZipCode32, put in your Zip and it will give U the Azimuth & Elevation for your area. The "Dave dish, down and to the left facing it for the 110 and 119 Bird.

DTV was 101 so a little to the right should be it to 119. 105,110 are also dishnet but you are going to want 119 as the main sat with only one location.

using a signal finder/beeper helps a lot

How did you get your dave dish to show a connection to your dishpro receiver? Did you change to dishnet LNB's? I have a dave dish that I cannot get to even show a connection to my receiver.

I watch dish through a dtv dish and lnb, you just have to point it right, it can be a pain :cool:
Just thought to ask but are you going by true north or magnetic north, I spent 30 min tryng to point at 175 instead of 160

agreed, worked for me...you can probably just use it, and put it nicely back in the package and take it back...haha

You guys that say you can use the dtv dish as is, do you have dish pro systems or legacy systems? The reason why I'm so confused is because when I hook up my dtv dish and run a check switch it gives me NC (no connection;no satellite feed). This would indicate that the dish is not connected at all, right? Would I get a no connection if it's not pointed at the right spot? I thought that it should at least show that the dish was connected.

I am alos trying to point my dave 18' single lbn dish @ bird 119. I downloaded the zipcode32 program (gives me same numbers that the on screen peak angles menu does on my 301.013) and got the elevation level. I tried setting the EL to 35 like it said (place the 35 under the bolt right?) and tried to adjuest left and right and I just cant seem to get a signal. I moved that dish all over the place and I cant seem to get anything. Is there any step by step guide to pointing my dish?
Just realized you said you were putting the elevation number under the bolt. There should be a little marker between you and the bolt on the dish that you should line up with 35.

Yea, sorry reading to much makes you scan to fast, i didn't notice you wrote that either, you use the metel edge underneth the marking, not the bolt.

:confused: I feel like an idiot. For the last two days Ive been out there on a ladder after work until the sun goes down (bout 2 hours) with a signal meeter trying to find that damn sattellite. I am now positioning my elevation level at the metal edge behind the tick marks. I also went out and got a $8 camping compass so I could get a general idea of which direction the thing needs to be pointed (earlier I had locked in Bell Expressvu 91). Im suppoed to be at El 35 and have tried tick marks +/- 4 of that, but anytime I get even a weak signal (and I really only get weak signals) its way off the mark of the direction its supposed to be. For instance I can get something around 130* and 180+* but the 119* is supposed to be at 162*. Im taking my compass reading right under the dish and arm. We are speaking degrees from magnetic north right? Otherwise how would the installers figure them out? I was reading some more articles and have seen refrences to the arm being "plumb". I assume that means perpendicular to the house. Mine may not be 100% plumb, Im not sure, but I got a 92+ singal when I was using it for dtv. The dish was originally installed by a dave tech when I subbed, should I start messing with that? Im so frustrated.
Plumb is very important.. Take a regular household level (if you have a pocket level even better.. like $3 at home depot) and stick it on the side of the mast (the part that sticks to your house).. Make sure to not have the dish on it so you can get an accurate reading. You should be perfectly level (also check across the top of the mast to ensure it's level in all ways). I bet thats your problem, and don't feel bad.. The first time I installed my own dave dish it was hell for the exact same reason.

A few post back you had mentioned about the switch not being detected. I am having the same problem. What did you do to get the switch to be detected? How did you do it in the receiver?

If you have 1 18" dave dish you only get 1 bird so no switch.

I have two DTV 18" dishes. Trying to point one at 119 and one at 110. Do I have to have a signal before it will detect the switch? And also, this may sound like a really stupid question, but I can't remember what I was pointing at with DTV. Was it 101? Is the 110 for DTV for High Def?
Thanks

Hook up one straight to rec then lock on signal. Unhook that then hook the other to rec. One at a time. Get signal from each then hook into switch. Then do switch check. I do not know about HDTV.
