Ok, which one is better or would you choose?
7200 = No ECM, Model Date: 1999, comes with card that includes box info, uses sombrero. PVR/DVR
6000 = No ECM, Model Date: 2000, uses jtag. HDTV
Both manufactured by other companies, .....not(Dish)
Although not manufactured by echo they have the same software in them,
most of the time only diference is the stamp on the door or cover and the s/n
In my opion having owned both of these models in the past gathering from yard sales, friends closet and such,
the 7200.
guide is diferent takes getting used to, the pvr function is cool also but if you read around you will see alot of problems with these IRD's are software related.
If you have the box keys on that card then no need to ever worry about the sonmbereo. long as you do not lose the info.
I cant confirm because I dont work as a tech for echo but I do not think the 7200
will ever be able to support the yellow cam so that leaves you with testing ablity as long as rom 10's are alive.
the 6000.
my favorite ird I ever had, now I am without and I miss her already, simple to jtag and I have no HD tv so it is not a factor and besides NOTHING worth watching ever comes on HD that I have seen, and in the future the 6000 HD tiers will all be nagra2 technolgy so unless you have magic card and a HD tv all that does not matter.
as for the guide it does not have PIP so when you are viewing the guide you cant see the picture of the show you were watching but the browse command can get around that,
These units are simple to jtag and currently run on the blue cams
IBM is in on these because of the picture output software copywrites.
MSN is in on the 7200 software so the reason they do not get ecm is The part of the software that each company has rights to would be like them sending a viris to one of there computers,
niether IBM or MSN supports such activity and have it Loopholed to avoid this and getting into any trouble dish complies with this.
All of this is from reading talking and personal results I have had with these two IRD models. If I could confirm any of this I would not be sitting here I would be.
7200 slow guide downloads but when they are up they are up. recording yes
boot time is 5 minutes sometimes
6000 guide is medium and has a habit of hanging in the aquiring sat signal screen for awhile after initial set up.
Jtaging is very finiky if you do it wrong 1 time you have to find wanna be's thread on writing a virgin eprom to reprogram the tsops
with the proper set up and rom programing either of these can stay up for 4 to 6 months easy if charlie stays on the same track he is on now, who nows about any tricks he may have in store.
you have to decide if you want HDTV or PVR. you MUST have a 7200 remote to do anything with that one,
6000 will take any dish remote
both dish 500 compatible.
6000 = pulling box keys + rom programing = 15 minutes
7200 = aquiring boxkeys from cam if open, or sombereo, complete teardown of ird + rom programing = 45 minutes and 3 cigerettes
if for some reason you read the entire 7200 eprom it would take 45 minutes.
screw it get em both!!!!!!
