First off the 3100 can be used for dish correct? (99% sure that it is, just a final confirmation would be great).. If someone could answer the remainder of my newbie questions (been reading about dish for a year off and on, I have a fairly clear understanding, but the latest information is a tad.. fuzzy):

1. Is a TSOP/EEPROM lock combo necessary with dish? I have heard conflicting reports.. some say yes, others tell me that you just end up being a bigger target with the lock.

2. Dish apparently is defeating the TSOP locks by changing the speed of the stream occasionally... How often does this usually happen?

3. With the 3100 and a dish with the Y-adapter, I can receive both 110 and 119 correct? Want to make sure I don't need one of the new 301 receivers to get the dual input. Will I need a disec switch, or will this work without one? (single receiver off the dish w/ Y adapter).

4. If I end up having to point this at only one sat for the time being, which one offers more channels, 110 or 119?

5. Assuming the Y adapter works, do I need to modify skew on this dish to get both, or does the adapter work with just azimuth/elevation adjustments?

6. Finally, the dish when it arrives has one LNB and a Y adapter. Can I use my Dave LNB on this Y adapter and dish to receive what I need? Note that my DTV LNB has two outputs on it, from what I can tell this is just like a multiswitch built in (I could run two receivers off the one LNB).. Not sure if that makes a difference.

Thanks for being patient with me guys, im getting there!

When converted to dish the 3100 will be a 301.....

Y adapter???? SW21 is needed for 2 legacy lnbs to get 2 sats.

Dave and Dish Legacy lnbs are compatible. Dave lnb's are not compatible with the DP type dish lnb's.

The dish will need skewed to get 2 sats.

Will I need to do the vid mod to use a ROM10 card in it then? It was sold as a package (BEV packaging).. Just trying to get organized here for when it shows up this week.

I don't think you will, this should be equal to a 301-010 or earlier, and it will not need vid mod......

Can anyone else answer my questions about the TSOP lock? Are the AR105-A locks better to use?

skinerd is correct. No vid mod is necessary for the .010 The Y-adapter does not have a SW21 switch so you'll need one to get both 110 & 119.

To answer your questions in order...

1. If you have a jtag, locks are not necessary but conenient.

2. So far, the d/lock4 and above have not been comprimised. Don't know when they will.

3. See above.

4. 110 has a lot of Spanish channels (CNN in Spanish only) but more PPV channels. 119 has more English channels but less PPV's.

5 & 6. Answered by skinerd.

Great to know! One last question, the guy selling me the 3100 BEV system is offering me a 3700 BEV system with a rom3 card as well.. Is the 3700 a DP capable system as well, or will I only get one bird with it?
