Well I finally got my Dish pointed at dish network and working. I have it aimed at the 110 bird because after two frustrating days I finally realized that this huge evergreen tree across the road must be blocking the signal with the very tip.

Anyway, I am now getting an "error 151: a serious problem has been detected with your reciever." I currently do have the three wire lock and switch (softlock?)installed and I know its installed properly. I also have the eeprom locked. As far as I can tell error 151 means something wrong with the lock. So, do I need to buy a digital lock in order to get satellite on my 2700 reciever? Or could this reciever have possibly taken an update that I require a Jtag to fix? Or maybe I'm suppost to take an update that is needed? The reciever hasn't been in the stream unlocked for two years or so.

the 151 error means you are ecm'd. you need to jtag, erase the right SA address, see below, then put the ird back in the stream. If anything is installed in your ird, then it is a hard lock. you will need to unlock everything to get any type of update. try unlocking it to see if it will update.

error 151 usually means a bad lock install. A softlock is software based, not hardware based like the digilock tsop lock. What do you mean by '3 wire lock'? A tsop lock should have 6-7 wires on it. Do you mean an eprom lock? For insalling a tsop lock on that 2700, follow mili's tsop lock install exactly as it's pictured. You will definetely need to let that ird see the stream with no locks on it to update the firmware, or download an image from the tsop bank that has already updated to P797. It shouldn't take to long to just let the stream update it. Probably only about 5min. The unit won't update with the tsop locked. Hope this clears a few things up. If you have a jtag, then you can just reflash your tsop with a new image if you do get ecm'd with no tsop lock. It's really easy with the 2700.

FYI-
error 152 is eprom lock instal prob
error 153 is bad cam id
error 155 is you took an ecm or lock detected by firmware (you won't get lock detected by firmware with the latest firmware for the 2700-P797)

No no. Before Digital Locks were made as there was no need for them. It was possible to lock the TSOP by removing the R259 (2700)(Or cutting the trace where the resistor should be if its just a track) and then putting a swith in. The center pole on the switch would go to where WE#0 goes for digital locks and one wire would run to the WE#1. With the switch connecting these two points, the TSOP was unlocked. The other side went to a GRD (Or +5v, can't remember which locks the TSOP) and with the switch to this side the TSOP is locked. Same principle as the eeprom lock.

Of course, I bought this reciever two and half years ago and did the lock shortly there after, I just never got into using it. Now here I am trying to regain on what is new as two and half years ago, Jtags were damn near impossible to use so people just bought "ex-sub" recievers with cards so that the box keys could be taken off the card. :) (Means I don't have Jtag.)

I guess something changed that requires DigiLocks, not sure what or how they work. I was playing with Jkeys and reading the tutorial the other day and this concept of unpluggin and replugging your reciever in while reprogramming to enter the edit mode is handy. As I recall, you used to have to solder a wire to bring the reciever in link mode not to mention unlocking the TSOP by writing a bit to a certain address before you could erase or write to the TSOP, EVERY time you had to erase and write the TSOP. Jtagging seems to have been simplified a bit now.

Wow, this turned into a rant.

Or rather, one long stream of conscious thought.
