General TSOP question

Im wondering about the TSOP, in general should you ever unlock your TSOP??? I understand the installation with no problems, then you lock it and what would be an example of a time you would need to unlok it? Or is there a time. I understand they could possibly write to it causing a critical error in the reciever and to unplug it if it says that but when you plug it back up should you have your TSOP set to locked or unlocked. If locked would you ever unlock it and why? Any help appreciated. A Deticated NEWBIE

Locking it keeps you safe but also prevents firmware updates, Eventually the receivers firmware becomes too old and channels are lost, Then unlocking it and allowing the update then relocking it gets things back to operating correctly.
