4000 & 4500 are not jtagable. Will need to remove TSOP to read or use sombrero (I think this works on 4000?). Easier & cheaper to get different ird from eBay.

thats what I would do,read from old cards.All the info you need would be on them....otherwise you can get them with a voltmeter.

In my opinion,the 2700 has the least problems and easiest to fix.As for reading of the cards,if unlocked,they can be read and unlocking does not affect the info on the card.

If they are Rom3 as you said,they can most likely be read by NagraEdit3.You will need the programmer though.The only Rev that you cannot do from home and require a dealer are of Rev380 and up.Now all the 3ms are available here and there but you must make sure that they have a "blocker"on them or you will get locked out.

2700 is the easiest,3100 has a few more features but a few more hassles too...

Only time you would unlock would be to take stream update or to read/write to tsop (which you can't realistically do to 4000). Otherwise, leave it locked all the time. I don't think 4000 FW has the lock detect function yet so it shouldn't nag the lock (as long as the install is good). If you get hit & the lock is doing its job, all you need to do is pull the AC plug or cam to reset...should be watchin' tv again.:D
