View Full Version : 301-013 working fine w/no nag, no vid mod - but how?

I've got a 301-013 with single tsop and no vid mod, bought it w/digital lock installed. It's working great w/ Rom10 card verA21 and I'm not complaining, but just curious why it works OK with no vid mod. I read that with no vid mod the 301-013 gets a nag 349 ("card not compatible") when used with testing card?

Does the lock somehow stop the nag?

Hook up your JTAG programmer and read location 7FFFFFAC and if it's 0000 then the Vid mod was done at one point and removed.

Some of the early DP301.013 single TSOPs do not require the vid-mod. I ran into one myself ... an old single unit sitting behind stuff at a Walmart. Someone had apparently pilfered the card (probably a blue card) and returned the box. The protective bag for the receiver had not even been opened ... just an area ripped to access and pull the card. I have no idea how long the box was sitting there, but the manager let me have it for $20 when I showed him the card had been rifled. Nevertheless, definitely check 7FFFFFAC and confirm 0000 (versus D500 which would require a vid-mod) ... Qrash

P.S. - since you bought the unit with a lock, my guess is that it had indeed been modded and the usual "appurtenances" removed as gunther suggests.

Thanks for the info. Is it normal to remove the vid mod? Is there any chance I might need it again in the future? I don't even have a jtag yet.

The vid mod allows TSOP writes in these receivers, if you ever need to write to the TSOP you will need the jtag and the vid mod.
Normal ECM repairs require eresing and restreaming, only a jtag is needed for that.
The vid mod for use of a blue card requires writing to a single location 7FFFFFAC, most DAHA builds and earlier are already 0000 at that location.

Thanks much. I saw this thread on another forum:

The guy had a 301-013 that was working fine until he updated from P200 to P201, then he got the nag 349. He was advised that the update "over-wrote the tsop" and he would need to reapply the vidmod. I also updated from P200 to P201 but had no problem at all. Was it just good luck or what?

My 301.013 updated to P201 without a problem and the VID mod location did not get written over. I'd checked the location 7FFFFFAC and it was still at 0000.

That is my experience also with numerous Vid-modded DP301.013 IRDs ... Qrash
