ANyone out have recievers/cards/dishs detained/seized by Canada Border Protection Agnecy or Department of Industry. I recenly had 34 dishnet recievers & cards "extracted" while crossing over at Fort Eirie, after declaring them as recievers. My argument with CBPA & Industry is that these were bell expressvu recievers and only had to be reflashed and thus could be used as 2nd recievers for households. Now I am appealing the seizure, now the fight begins.

Got that Captain Willaims !

I bring them across the border all the time with no seizures. I have had them phone the CRTC while I was standing there. I do this several times a week and have discussed it with the customs officers. Customs has told me that CRTC wanted them to keep a list of people bringing these across. But the guy at customs said they couldnt be bothered. If it was allowed through, they wouldnt waste their time keeping track of legitimate goods.

At 34 receivers, I would expect Customs to want you to declare that as commercial goods. If you didnt, then I would expect that is the basis they seized them on. Can you tell us what reason they gave for the seziure? They do have the right to hold any goods for any reason for 30 days for inspection.

Theyseized base on the recommendation of the RCMP and Industry Canada. Industry Canada recommended the seizure and there's the fight, I dont even have serial numbers or model type, have contacted my MP who has called the Ms. Robillard who is the minister of industry, so I can get this info for my appeal

Sorry about your luck! I would be interested to hear how things progress. The poor guy that has an electronics repair business that buys receivers, repairs and resells them for a legitimate reason, such as reflashing for BEV. If they stop allowing us to do this, how are all the cops gonna get their cards loaded?????

And my friend has just set up 2 sat at cops homes. My argument with industry and RCMP is these recievers are the same as bell and will be used as 2nd recievers for such people. They questioned me is this legal and I said its similar to people having a cable splitter for 2 tv's

It is legal to bring one or two back for personal use but 34 , I dunno , it does make you look like a dealer ... They are so unsure at the border that it is a joke ...

Good Luck !

Do you have a Canada Customs importers # ? I have brought back carloads of this stuff, but I declare it as commercial goods. NEVER a problem. I do know with that quantity and declaring as personal goods, they get pissy.

Unless of course, you have a 34 room mansion, in which case, can I come and visit?

Spoke to 1 dealer last week from Virginia where they supplied 130 of them to David, and his associate tried driving them over the border and was stopped and charged and had goods seized

I declare them as satellite receivers or dishes or whatever it is that I am bringing in. I do not lie about it in any way. I dont mention whether there is cards or not, as that is just a accessory for the receiver as is a remote. Out of the last 20 crossings, I think they inspected once, to determine where the satellite dishes were made.

20 crossings , got caught once ???

I would count my blessings and just take the hit ...
Only thing now is you will most likely have a red flag on you ....
Also a good thing you told the truth , that will help ...

But then again like I said , they sure don't know what is legal and what isn't , especialy when it comes to Dish/BEV , same equipment , just a different name .... Hell, my BEV dish ( right from Bell ) came with a Dishnet LNBF on it !
Again , Good Luck !
