I tried the JUNKYARD fix for my dishnet 4000 receiver but could not get it to work.I followed all the directions, the receiver reset . lights flashed on & off, then light stay on with a blue screen with a snow screen now & then.
The first time I tried it a gave it a hour to update , but the light never shut off.
I then unplugged the receiver from the outlet and let it power up.After searching for satelite signal the one channel comes back.so I pull the card out to check the info screen, the receiver address is still 000000000001.
I tried the junkyard fix couple of times with the same results.
I even left it on over night to see if it would update. NOTHING.
same result.
Could it be my ROM CARD thats causing the problem.
Please help.
What I'm I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance.

Are you new to Charlie ?....
The JYF won't work On The x000/x500 GreyBox Receivers. Charlie took care of that long time ago.
Charlie still sending updates to these so-called grey boxes, but if the IRD has been ECM'd, it won't update.
Another word is if you have an old grey box and you just plug it to the Dish, it'll update...but if the TSOP is corrupted, it will not take any updates...
Your best bet is to reload it with another image, with the help of the $100-200 USD device called F040 JTAG.
BTW this is for Dish only, Bev still update these....

I dont have any of these receivers - just curious I guess. Can you in theory corrupt the software point it at Bell and then corrupt it again and point it at Dish?
I know I have seen this discussed a few years back but cant remember the resolve. I think you cant for some particular reason, right?

Let's think logically for a min....
If you corrupt the TSOP from Bell then restream it toward Dish's birds.....wouldn't you be back to where you were in the first place ? (Not getting updated with ECM'ed TSOP) ....right...?

When you switch it to bell you wont have the ECM in the TSOP anymore. Now when you corrupt it again and switch it back to dish will it take the update if it does not have an ECM in the TSOP. Now if Dish has pulled the stream on this receivers software than it is a question of just updates of working software or any updates that do not envolve that part of the TSOP that has the ECM in it.
I know what you are saying but that is not what I am saying at all.

Show me how you "corrupt" the TSOP @ this point...

No...it won't even be seen by Dish....

These grey boxes...if they work..they work...If they got ECM'ed, like I said above, get an expensive F040 JTAG and load the old image back in...
There is no update to any of the TSOP sector.......PERIOD.....!!!

I am not going to argue with you because I am just speculating. Regarding youe question on how you corrupt the TSOP...... Same way you corrupted it the first time - Short The Same Points as you did the first time.
The fact is that Dish sends out partial updates for receivers. However, if it is ECMed the only option to bring back to life at this point is to switch to Bell and then switch back. There is a drawback I think it has to do with the guide or something with the channels. At least you will have some TV back.

Since my dishnet 4000 receiver won't update after the JYF , is it possible to turn it into a bev 4000 receiver that will update.
And if so , does anyone have step by step directions on how this can be done.
I'm a newbie with CHARIE any help would be appreciated.
THANKS in advance.

you can mout a switch, but a short wire and pair of snips works for me, solder wire at U19 then at other end of dip layout, pin 16 solder the other end there, plug ird in, count to 3 and snip the wire, screw in sat feed from bev, and ird will update anywear from 5 to 30 minutes.

smkstang1 - No. Once the grey box gets hit from Charlie, there's no going back. Most of the time, even a F040 jtag does not properly reflash (...as per my dealer, he has one).
BIGZIB - Yes, it can be converted to BEV. Follow this link...

See at least one person had success. I dont have any of these receivers but as far as I have been reading a long time ago. Charlie still sends the firmware but not the full one. If you get ecmed it wont update it back but it does update once you crossover, because a different sector is being updated this time.
Just for information, a month ago I had a dish 4000 ird with firmware from 1996 and it wouldn't "lock" onto to sat. signal to take updates. It could see the sat. and give me a strength, but it would say "searching for signal" for hours. I finally gave up with using it for dish and JYFed it to BEV. Took the BEV firmware and everything was working good. Just for the hell of it I hooked it back up to the Charlie dish and did a JYF again. Well, it took the charlie firmware and has been working that way for the past three weeks. Question is, how/why would a 4000 ird with BEV firmware take a Charlie firmware update after if there is no "full" TSOP firmware in the stream?

I have the dishnet 4000 receiver that I need to convert to bev, but I'm not sure how to find the bev 91 satelite without the menu screen from the BEV software.
Is it possible to locate the BEV 91 satelite using the dish pointing menu from the dishnet software.
Right now I have my dish locked on the dishnet 119 satelite, I know that I need to move it to the 91 satelite but How do I lock in the signal.
When I do the JYF how would I know if the dish is locked into the bev 91 satelite and recieving update to fix the Ecm'ed address.

BIGZIB,
I do believe that on the bottom of the "point dish" screen where it shows the signal strength, it will also say which sat it is recieving a signal from. When it has dish firmware but you point it to BEV @ 91º, it will say "wrong sat - EV91º" or something very similar. It will not "lock" onto the sat. because of the incompatability of the Dish firmware on your ird but when you JYF it, the ird will download the BEV firmware. When I did mine, It wasn't ECMed so I hope you have success with yours.
Thanks for the reply OPM.
Right now my DISHNET 4000 is still at address 000000000001 because it would not update at satellite 119 after the JYF , only receiving channel 101 .
But preview channel and menu is working fine.
Hope I can find bev 91 satellite using this menu because I don't own a sat finder.
I won't be able to try till thurs, will let you know if it worked.
THANKS AGAIN.

You are 100% correct. When I was trying to connect to 61.5 I kept on catching the Bev sattelite so once you catch it its a breeze.
