"The two main ways to open up the channels is using a Magic Card or programming an open ROM 2,3 10 or 11 card with a Dual Crystal ROM Programmer then putting a blocker on it." --- from the newbies section

questions on this:
1. Do I need to get a blocker with both the magic card and ROM programmer methods or is it only for the ROM programer method.?
2. Do you have the option to pick either method on most of the hackable receivers with the exeption of the 7200?
3. If you use the magic card does that replace the dish network card (or ROM card as you call it) in its place? and which one is the easiest to use for a newbie?

Could someone please answer some or all of my questions.

1) Only ROM method
2) Yes, and as Birdie says in next post(I didn't see the dual chrystal comment)
3) Magic can replace rom or be used in conjunction with a subscribed rom.
4 ) I think Magic is easiest to start.

You do not need a dual crystal loader, Any ISO that clocks at 3.68 will work. The duals usually are 3.57 for dtv and 3.68 for dish. 3.57 dtv was H card days.

Do you need a ROM blocker for a ROM 2 card???????

No, Rom 2's do not get stream locked. Only rare exception is if the card is marked, But personally never saw one marked myself yet.

Use excel on rom 2. Calibrate the program first then do your stuff, Always read BD key from card just before writing to it and you will be good.

What do you mean by calibrate the program?

With xcel3.6 running.
Insert the cam into the programmer.
In the xcel window click on file (top left)
In the pull down menu click on calibrate
In the pop up window click on start calibrate
Wait till it finishes
click on close in the pop up window.

Your done calibrating.

Word of warning read the rom2 cam with xcel. Save a backup of the cam.
Next check the revision of the cam. (card info tab on right side in the Rev box)

If it's rev 52 no problem.
If it's rev 54 do not use xcel to write anything to the cam. Reading's ok but writing is a no no. You will loop it. Not a big problem it will unloop easily but why ask for trouble.

Create a clean rev 52 bin with xcel from your read and save it. Then write it to the rom2 with nagraedit 4.0. Saves having to use bug buster to unloop it later.
