I bought a receiver 2800 & card off ebay. From what I have been reading it appears as though this receiver was married to another card, not the one I was sent as the receiver number & card number do not match. I know the card is a rom 10 @ rev A1A. I am also having problems reading the tsop with my jtag. Have put in over 6 hours but no luck. Is there another way to secure the box keys with the card I have ? I know this can be done with Nagra but not sure if it applies to my situation.

I have been reading and searching and I am confused about this and what to do next. I have got the sats 110 & 119 tuned in. I have a magic card (that I would like to use), jtag, & programmer. No subscription.

Please point me in the right direction.

Open Nagra, do a one step backup of your card's image, and save the image in case you need it later.
Then, do a One Step Clean - when you read it again, it should be at Rev A16. Your card is now good to go.

You'll have to JTAG your receiver to retrieve the box keys. What specific problems are you having? There's an excellent tutorial on JTAGging a 2800 at www.bellexpress.vu . Click on the How-To link at the left of the screen, then click on JTAG.

You have JKeys installed, correct?

Man I appreciate the help !!! Yes Chief - have JKeys installed and have tried latest version & older one (read about trying that in the forums). Have tried 3 different computers (2) w/ Windows 2000 & (1) laptop w/ 98. Have printed, read, and re-read tutorial you recommended plus the instructions that came with my buffered jtag, which are basically the same. I am really struggling here. Could it be something with the computer settings?

I also still do not understand exactly how to do the magic card. I know I have to have the box keys. I am assuming that the magic card has to be configured to whatever type card this receiver was originally married to. Is this correct ? I have a rom 10, but the sticker on the back of my receiver indicates a rom3 and its serial number. I am not getting how all this ties in to each other.

Any help is appreciated. I have been reading the forums so much the past three days my eyes are blurring on me, but point me in the right direction and I will be happy to read more.

Crabo, what the receiver was originally married to doesn't matter. I'd try running your MC in Camless Rom3 mode. You WILL need your box keys. Then, just program it according to the instructions in the tutorial.
Note - it's quite possible the password included with the MC won't work. There's one posted in several places on the forum that will. I put it up in a couple of places yesterday. If you see continuous "card not inserted properly" nags on your screen, try changing your password.
The MC is thin - you may have to shim it with a business card, old HU, etc..to get it to make good contact in your receiver. Shim goes on TOP of the MC.
Back to your JTAG....I'll review the procedure, just in case you missed something. I use JKEYS 2.9.11.026. It's in the downloads section. Look at your JTAG...it's 5 pins, the one attached to the RED wire is the TRST pin. Looking at the JTAG port in the bottom of the case, there's a ground bar, then a row of pads (7) right above this bar. 1 and 7 (1 being on the left) aren't used. The TRST pin goes on pad 6 - the others, of course, on pads 2,3,4 and 5.
Attach the JTAG to your receiver (receiver UNPLUGGED) Now, power it up, Then, open JKEYS and click DETECT.

If you've done it correctly and are SURE the pins are making proper contact, the information should be displayed. If you've done something wrong, you'll see 0xFFFFFFFFF...Unknown Device.

I have followed JTAG procedure outlined to a "T". Still no go. Even got some fresh batteries. Here is my setup:

Rear of Receiver
1 2 3 4 5 6
GROUND STRIP

Red pin on 6

Same results - 0xFFFFFFFFF...Unknown Device. I even got on top of it with a flashlight to be sure I had good contact. Could this JTAG be wired incorrectly ?
Man is this frustrating .....

Is the receiver powered on? Do you have jkeys set to use serial port (it defaults to com1 for some reason)? Try jkeys 2.0.1 if you havn't already.

Look very closely at the wires that attach to the pogo pins. They're rather flimsy, and may not be making good contact. I've had to resolder them on several occasions.
I've also had to open and close JKEYS several times to get a reading. Don't ask why - I have no idea.
Possible the JTAG is bad, too - but I'd exhaust everything else first.

JT - yes I have tried 2.0, and checked to be sure it was set for serial port. Still no go.

Can not look at the pogo pin connections, they are covered with color coded heat shrink, unless you have another suggestion. Have tried to open & close JKeys also. I have to believe this is either a problem with the PC (although I have tried 3 different ones) or the JTag.

pin it out. if you have a multimeter (you shouldy if you are in this hobby) if not you can pick one up for under $20.00 that will read basic resistance, I recommend that you either pick up a fluke or go to sears and pick up a craftnsman (OEM fluke) one that does capacitance etc, they are about $70.00 it is a better investment. put one lead on the pogo pin and then trace the wire back and verify it all the way through the circuit. I have had to ground one of the pins out to chassis ground get a pair of allegator clips and a piece of wire, I think it was pin 6 or 7 but check the newbie forums it is in there.

also if you are using an extension cable on your jtag make sure that you have a straigt through serial cable rather then a null modem cable. the null modem switches the The TX+ and the RX+ from end to end.

I sincerely thank you all for your help. Still having problems. Have not used an extension cable. I have no need to. I will try and ohm out the pogo pins through to the 25 pin connector. Does anyone one know where I can find the wiring of a jtag info ? I know littrle about the 25 pin connector, pictures would be nice.
