Quite right we often take some thing for granted and never give it another thought that others may not have been there yet.
In this case one point I would make. Stuntguys FAQ is not a programming language guide per say. It's more of a guide to specfic commands and what they do in relation to the actual function and architecture of the nagravision smartcard. More specficially the IC(s) used on it. How they respond to the actual programming language. Which is Assembly Language. What C or C++ is to the pc. Assembly Language is to the nagravision smartcard.
Knowing and understanding Assembly Language is a prerequisite to understanding Stuntguy's FAQ. Assembly is a tough one to learn at first. It dosen't make a lot of sense. Especially if you learned several later programming languages first. But, it's doable and necessary for programming nagra smartcards.
It's comprable to Latin. Learn Latin before learning any other european language and they are all eaiser to get a handle on. Since Latin is the basis for most of them.
Assembly is the same since its the basis of most later programming languages.
The Art of Assembly is a good starting point. Do a search on the web. It's available in a downloadable format in many locatations all over the web. Or you can go to any of the popular book sites and buy a hardcopy if you prefer.
