I have used both the single IC and Two IC versions.

Both have worked equally well for me.

I understand Mili has a nice one. But if your
looking to DYI it I would recommend the one
IC version. All it takes is a single IC,
a 47K ohm resistor, and a switch. A DPDT
toggle switch works well. It also gives a
extra switch for a eeprom lock all in one.
For the wire I use the same wire used in
hard drive cables.

The IC depends on the model of receiver.

For say a 2700 with a 5 volt TSOP use a:

74hct02
or 74act02

For something like a 3900 or 301 use a:

74hc02
or 74ac02
