101 Newbie question... 2700/Rom 3

Hope this is a simple question for the experts out there. I have a 2700 and the software version is 64.... I have also installed a tsop lock and set up according to mili.

The problem I am having is first I only find 110 satellite. Also the version of the software on the IRD needs to be updated.

Do I need to shut off the TSOP lock to get the update?

From the reading it looks like the Dish 500 Pro I added will need an adapter for it to work with the 2700. Is this correct?

If your dishpro 500 has a dish pro lnb it will need an adapter to work with 2700 if it has legacy lnb you're good to go. Yes you need to turn off lock to take updates, and make sure you have IRD set to take updates without permission. My own advice.....scrap the lock. Locks can be an ECM target and it is so easy to fix an ECM that it's not worth the headache. Just MY opinion and preference.

Yes, it is does have an have a pro lnb and I have added the adapter. I just can't seem to hit the 119. I can select from the menu the 110 and get it fine but doing the multi set up on the menu I can't for the life of me get it to pick up the 119. Even with it looking for the 119 I can hit the 110 and it says wrong satellite. I know they are close wondering if cable can cause you to hit one and not the other. I am using prexisting cable from when I had Dave. Thank you for the help I am almost there.

One major mistake that people make with Dish 500 is that it is NOT a dead-spot dish like an 18" dish....That's why there is SKEW angle for multi-satellite dish such as Dish500/SuperDish/ParaToro/etc...

To adjust the skew angle you turn ONLY the dish and nothing else. Let's say if you get 110º bird, you may have to adjust the skew angle to get 119º, then after that you move the dish a little bit to the right, then you may have to adjust the skew angle again to get both satellites.

Depend on where you are geographically, in the end, when you get both birds, the dish may look rediculously funny or about to fall of the roof, but that's what it takes...

Also you got to make sure your IRD is up-to-date with firmware, with old firmware they may not pick up both birds. Pick the PEAK setting in setup, then Dish500 ...

It appears I have a couple variables causing the problems. The first is when I figured I needed the box to take the update. After getting it to start taking the update the receiver would no longer power up. I thought maybe it was fried so I tried to reload throught the JTAG port but nothing. I then removed the TSOP 3 lock from the board completely. It then loaded and powered up.
I then hooked it up only getting the 110 and it took the update fine. After that everything worked. I am just not getting the 119 which I will retry now that everything is working and updated. Six Dart Out recommends against the lock that it might be a ECM target. Not sure if that is what it did with me but removing it has worked. Just need to adjust the scew angle like Idal 98 said and that might get it.

Thank you for the help. It is frustrating at times but if you keep at it we will all get it working. I am a cross flow from DTV and have some of a learning curve as do we all.
