View Full Version : signal meters
get a sat beeper. $25 with shipping from solidsignal.com. It's the best $ I've spent in this hobby. Don't waste your money on anything fancy. They're not any better.

I use a extension cord a sat receiver and a 9" tv.
What can I say I'm a cheap bastard had all the stuff already and it's not a great sig meter built into the receiver but it works. :-)

The only thing the sat beeper is going to do for you that your way doesn't is save you the trouble of moving the IRD and TV outside. The beeper runs in line, and uses a tone that gets higher and higher pitched until your signal is max. You still have to go look at the TV to make sure your tuning to the right bird. Still, it's really convienent for helping friends at it will save time, effort and usually do a better job when aiming. I'm a cheap bastard too, but I've had trouble aiming before, and it's just not worth the frustration.

I took my cell phone, called my home cordless phone and put it in front of the TV with the sat. beeper up loud. I put my cell on external speaker. Then go outside with the cell phone and turn dish till the cell phone indicates good signal.
